A Closer Look at Room Tax Reform
June 10, 2015

Dear WH&LA Lodging Member:

In our continuing effort to provide our lodging members with the latest analysis and information on Room Tax Reform, we have just developed A Closer Look at Wisconsin Room Tax Reform to provide just as the title notes, a closer and more in-depth look at the Room Tax Reform plan approved by Joint Finance Committee. While we recently also sent you the Q&A on Room Tax Reform special WH&LA Capitol Insider, we decided, based on many calls we have received, that a simple guide such as this may provide the finer details you want and need.

Please note, as stated on the second page of A Closer Look, that this plan is not final until approved by the state legislature and signed by the Governor in the State Budget. There may be a point over the coming weeks where we will reach out for your help in contacting key legislators or the Governor's Office to help ensure the plan continues its momentum.

For properties in communities currently without a room tax who may be wondering what all the fuss is about, it may be wise to also become familiar with this issue, as you may find it could pertain to you in the near or distant future. The more protections that are in place to utilize room tax revenue as originally intended, to help grow local tourism, the better off lodging properties and the tourism industry will be all around the state.
