Ben's Buzz:

February 1, 2017

Dear BFCCPS Families,

Capstone is one of my proudest moments as the Head of School of this amazing school, and an incredible display of hard work, dedication, and service to others.  Capstone is a culmination of all four BFCCPS pillars in action. With support of their parents, students demonstrate all four virtues of our character education program, to plan and execute an individual community service project. This year long project culminates in a presentation to the BFCCPS community on the impact their project had on their community,as well as a reflection on how they have grown academically and how this project has impacted them personally.

I encourage you to watch video of the students speeches, you might also enjoy the photo galleries from both  Thursday's an  Friday's events.

Congratulations to the members of the class of 2017 and their parents, I could not be more proud of your accomplishments!

As we've now reached the midway point of the year, please take a moment to review your child's school supplies to see what needs to be replenished. Many students seem to be running low on day to day items including pencils, glue sticks, and filler paper.

The lost and found bin is overflowing with coats, hats, water bottles and much more! Please stop by to cl aim any items that may belong to your family.  The lost and found bin is located just past the Art Room - any items remaining on February 13th will be donated. Please try to stop by  if you're attending  the PCO Heart-to-Heart Dance to look for any misplaced belongings.

BFCCPS invites all faculty, staff and students to participate in a Red, White, Blue and Jeans Day with a $1 donation this Friday, February 3rd. All proceeds will benefit the upcoming Washington DC Trip.

Have a great rest of the week!

Heather Zolnowski
Head of School

We are looking for parent representation to cover the following grade spans:

We anticipate four to six meetings scheduled between February and June. The Benjamin Franklin Classical Charter Public School will be conducting our annual  Postural  Screening  Program this winter.  The purpose of this  screening program is to detect early signs of possible  posture problems in children grades 5 - 8.  Our  screening program is not a diagnostic service, but a program to identify students who should have further medical evaluation.  The  screening is conducted in a manner that is respectful of each child's modesty/privacy.

If your child's primary care provider has performed a  postural exam on or after April 1st, of 2016, and you have submitted documentation of the exam to the Health Office (usually, but not always noted on the physical assessment form), then your child will be exempt from our  screening program.

If we have not received documentation about your child having had a  postural exam by his or her primary care provider since April 1, 1016, you will receive a letter from the Health Office requesting documentation of exam results.  If we do not receive this documentation, then your child will be  screened during P.E. class, during March.  Again, the  screening will be conducted in a manner that is respectful of each child's modesty/privacy.

Community Announcements:
Please note that the tournament on 2/22 is open only to High School students. BFCCPS students would be able to compete on the 20th and 21st during our extended President's Day Weekend.

As a reminder, BFCCPS has an extended absence policy which indicates that extended absences for non-medical reasons for more than 10 consecutive school days will not be approved and will result in dis-enrollment from BFCCPS unless caused by exceptional and unavoidable circumstances, such as a natural disaster, serious accident, or other situation deemed exceptional and unavoidable by the HOS.
