Wildcat  News February 2017

Principal's Pen

wire-bound-pad.jpg Happy Catholic Schools Week! This is an especially special week for claiming the value Catholic education provides to young people. Alongside the excellent academics and strong faith formation, Catholic schools prepare students to become good citizens who place a lifetime importance on serving others.   According to (the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA), national test scores, high school graduation rates, college attendance and other data show that Catholic schools frequently outperform schools in both the public and private sectors. My, Catholic schools have many reasons to celebrate! Thank you so much for sending your children to Nashua Catholic! As I often say to our students, "God is good all the time."

Speaking of national test scores, I am very proud to tell you that our NC students placed in the top 15% of the nation in reading and mathematics last spring. This data recognized Nashua Catholic as an exemplary high performing school and we qualified to apply for National Blue Ribbon School status, which is very prestigious. Applying for Blue Ribbon status is an intensive and rigorous process. A small faculty committee and I spent November and December completing the application. Last Friday, I was notified that Nashua Catholic made it through the first process. Our application was reviewed and nominated by the Council for American Private Education (CAPE) for further consideration and review with the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE).  Only 50 schools are nominated from many applications across the nation! We will send our application to the USDOE by February 28 and we will be notified in September of 2017. Wish us luck!

Last month, we kicked off our "Complete 180" campaign, setting an enrollment goal of 180 for the 2017-2018 school year. We received multiple referrals. Thank you so very much! Please keep going! Your referrals are our greatest asset for new admissions. Don't forget to mention that we are a recognized exemplary high performing school and our Blue Ribbon pursuit!

In Christ,
Mrs. McFadden

Ladies'
Paint Night

January 30th was a  fabulous evening of fun,  friendship, with a painting splash for 30 of our grandmothers, mothers, daughters, and friends at Nashua Catholic!

Let's do t his again, Mrs. Blomquist!

Cell phone issues

Some students are not placing their cell phones that are to be turned off, in the designated bucket during morning homeroom. Instead, they are carrying their phones, turned on, and in their sweatshirts or placing them in their lockers.  It is important that students understand that there is a reason for these policies to be in place- optimal learning! Parents, can you talk to your student about this policy and encourage them to follow NC rules?   Thank you!

Young Inventors at NC

The 8th grade students at NCRJHS will be participating in a special school project through the Young Inventors' Program® School Invention Convention. It  will combine many of the skills that s/he has been learning in the areas of science, social studies, language, writing, and math. The Inventive Thinking Project is a school activity, which promotes analytical and creative thinking and problem solving.
Each group will develop an original idea for a Rube  Goldberg® invention and take it from an idea to a completed project. They will design an  invention and build a working model of it. This project is important because it gives each student an opportunity to solve a real problem.
On Wednesday February 22, 2017 , from 6:30P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School will hold a Young Inventors' Program® School Invention Convention, a special event to display the students' creative efforts. You will be surprised and delighted by the many new and creative Rube Goldberg® contraptions the students develop. Please save the date! We will remind you of this event, and we hope you will join us to celebrate the students' efforts.

Athletics - Wildcat Update for February
Basketball season is coming to a close, as both our boys and girls' teams have only two tournaments remaining in their seasons. Now these two teams look forward to playing in the New Hampshire CYO tournament which runs from February 1st through February 10th, here at Nashua Catholic. Girls have their first game 2/4 at 1:45 P.M., and boys play their first on 2/6 starting at 6P.M.

We are still looking for more volunteers throughout the CYO tournament! If you are interested in helping out, please take a look at the available dates and times on our SignUp Genius page which can be found here:   http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0945acad2aa2fa7-cyotournament

Wrestling has been moving right along, and our Wildcat wrestlers now have two big tournaments under their belt. In the first tournament of the year at the Rundlett Invitational, Nashua Catholic's Jesse Brochu took first overall in his weight class, along with Liam Finn taking second place, Sam Sirois placing third, and Richie Ronzio and Jackson Gates both taking fourth place.

The Tri-County Wrestling Championships just took place on January 29th, and yet again our Wildcats came back with some hardware! Jesse Brochu took home first place, Liam Finn took second place, Aiden DeNeill and Matthew Kerutis both took fourth place, and Sam Sirois and Elizabeth Crandall each took fifth in their respective divisions.

Our Wildcat cheerleaders are filling our gym with spirit as they are all excited to finally be starting their competition season! Our girls open their competition season Saturday, February 4th with the Cheer Madness Competition taking place at Nashua North. Our girls will take the mat for the first time this season at 1:15 P.M. GO WILDCATS!

Car Pool Courtesy and Safety

Parents, we ask for your cooperation in the car pool dismissal procedure at the end of the school day. Please know that parking on Webster and waiting for your student(s) is not acceptable. This street is reserved for sport buses and for parents who must come into the building to pick up their child for pressing appointments outside Nashua Catholic. We have also noticed some drivers turning from Webster onto Bartlett and "cutting" the line. Let's all work together and follow the rules that are put in place to make your students as safe as possible. Thank You!
