  CWO4 Frederick Dean Mann
Oct 1918 - Jan 2017

Our long-time member and Silver Star Medal recipient was laid to rest with members of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps there to honor him.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Frederick Dean Mann was born Oct. 14, 1918 and died Jan. 9, 2017. The services included a flyover from a Coast Guard helicopter and a 21-gun salute from the Coast Guard's Ceremonial Honor Guard. In Mann's honor, the U.S. Navy's USS Michael Murphy was scheduled to lay a wreath over the wreckage of USS George F. Elliot in Iron Bottom Sound off Guadalcanal.

Mr. Mann was also the driving force behind our Fred Mann Lucky Bag Fund, a  grant to an Association member (or an immediate family member), who has experienced an unforeseen financial crisis.

  Printing of The Chief

A few years ago, we filmed how our magazine, The Chief, was printed.  We've recorded a newer version using a better camera and miking-up the participants, all the while, highlighting Master-Print's new press.  Take a few minutes and see how things progress after our magazine leaves the National office and arrives at our printer, Master-Print.

From our National President:

On April 7, 2019, the CPOA will celebrate 50 years of service to our fellow Chiefs, our Coast Guard Family and our Communities.  To mark this momentous occasion, the Ad Hoc 50th Anniversary Committee plans to sell a variety of mementos to provide fundraising support for the Birthday events.  To that end, I hereby announce a LOGO CONTEST to select the logo to be used for the entire year of Celebration.  The logo will be used on one side of a 50th Anniversary coin, as well as on other items as decided by the Ad Hoc 50th Anniversary Committee.  The criteria for the Logo Contest can be found here...

Opt Out Now: Website Lets Anyone See Your Home Address

From SpouseBuzz (military.com)

As military spouses we hear a lot - and I mean a lot - about personal security and operational security. Loose lips sink ships, after all. So the idea that a series of public websites have your home address, including any on-base residence, and a pretty darn accurate list of family members just sitting there, waiting for anyone to search and find is pretty shocking.

But it's true.

All of this is completely legal.  FamilyTreeNow.com and a series of other, similar sites pulls from public government records to compile a whole parade of information about you including long ago addresses, a list of associated names (for many women that likely includes your maiden name), a list of family members and a much less accurate list of "possible associates."

Military Times is proud to announce the launch of the new cybersecurity hub, fifthdomain.com.
Fifth Domain is a one-stop destination focusing on the business, technology and evolving threats that define cybersecurity across civilian and defense agencies. It brings together unparalleled cyber coverage from Defense News, Federal Times and C4ISRNET with original Fifth Domain reporting and aggregation. Fifth Domain will serve as a collaborative cyber channel for all three brands, as well as a standalone site for all things cyber.

The new website will feature the superior news coverage that you've come to expect from Defense News, Federal Times and C4ISRNET, as well as special multimedia coverage, contributions from cybersecurity leaders across all sectors, and resources to help inform government efforts to combat evolving cyber threats.

Don't miss the latest coverage. Sign up to receive cyber headlines in your inbox each morning.

Book of the Month

The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them." -- Albert Einstein- F(X) Leadership Unleashed! is a different kind of leadership development book. It is a comprehensive leadership development approach hitting all the areas and aspects of creating great leaders starting with yourself first. It combines the Art and the Science of leadership. It encompasses tried and proven leadership concepts in a way that is easily charted throughout all levels of an organization because it provides a roadmap and the compass. F(X) Leadership Unleashed! will benefit anyone who seeks to inspire, impact, ignite or lead others, whether they are military, civilian, corporate or community leaders. Leadership begins inside of you. Leadership is about you, the people you influence, and a belief that you can make a difference and have an impact. Leadership starts with a condition of the heart - the desire and passion to make a difference before it moves to the brain to implement a plan to make a difference. It is an inside-out process and is shaped by your values, character, choices, opportunities, experiences and your worldview.
