State of the City Scheduled for Tuesday, February 28
Make your reservations to attend the official State of The City luncheon with keynote speaker Mayor Rusty Paul on Tuesday, February 28 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Westin Atlanta Perimeter North. Mayor Paul will update you on city happenings, including City Springs and outlining his vision. The luncheon is $40 for Chamber members, $45 for non-members and late registration is $60. Arbor Day Celebration
The City's annual Arbor Day celebration takes place 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Fig Island at the intersection of Mt. Vernon Highway and Glenridge.  In addition to adding to the foliage at Fig Island, the City will be giving away tree saplings to attendees.  Help keep the city green and join us Feb. 17th!
Learn About Upcoming Changes to Heritage Park
Heritage Sandy Springs will share its plans for changes to the Park in a Public Information Meeting coming up on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 beginning at 6:30 p.m.   The meeting will be held at Heritage Hall located at 6110 Bluestone Road.
Don't Be The Last To Know
Whether weather or traffic gridlock, be in the know on what's happening before your leave work or home.  Sandy Springs Alerts will alert you via text or email notifications of emergencies: public safety and weather alerts to a weekly traffic advisory. You choose the alerts you want to receive.  You can also register you and your family for Smart911, providing first responders with information they need to know about you and your family in an emergency.  Don't be the last to know. This Month's News from Recreation and Parks  
Be Your Daughter's Valentine
A few spots remain for the annual Daddy Daughter Dance.  The event features music from both generations and includes dance contests, musical games, complementary refreshments, a keepsake photo and door prizes.  Attire is business casual to semi-formal.  The event takes place Saturday, Feb 4, 2017 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Spalding Drive Charter Elementary School.  The cost is $35 per couple; $10 each additional daughter in the family.   Register online

Leadership Sandy Springs Annual Program
On Thursday, February 9, Leadership Sandy Springs presents its annual Live Learn Lead event. Lee Fisher of CEOs for Cities is our featured speaker.  Cities are the economic engines of our country and Lee will discuss how innovative cities like Sandy Springs are the catalysts of economic prosperity.  H is organization unites cities across the country as cluster cities to magnify the impact of sharing smart ideas and best practices that encourage growth and opportunity.  Learn how Sandy Springs could benefit from becoming a city learning cluster and how local organizations and businesses can be involved.
Join LSS for Live Learn Lead 2017 at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church on Thursday, February 9. Networking and heavy appetizers begin at 6:30 PM and the program begins at 7:30 PM.  Registration is online: at  http://www.leadershipsandysprings.org/events/live-learn-lead. 
ACT3 Productions Features Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None
Act3 Productions presents Agatha Christie's

Atlanta Jewish Film Festival
The world's biggest Jewish film festival is happening now with many films showing right here in Sandy Springs.  The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival kicked off January 24 and will run through February 15. Heritage Sandy Springs Winter Classics Series
Held one Sunday evening a month,  February 12, 2017's concert will feature SympVibes and Nothin'But Treble, two a cappella groups from Georgia Tech. 
Heritage Winter Classics will take place in Heritage Hall on the lower level of the Heritage Sandy Springs  at 6110 Blue Stone Road.  Admission is $5 for members of Heritage Sandy Springs and $10 for non-members. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. with performances from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Cash bar available; no outside food or beverage permitted. 
Free parking is available at the Heritage Sandy Springs lot on Blue Stone Road.
Titles @ Twilight Continues with Book About FDR And Why He Was Drawn To Georgia 
Come to Heritage Sandy Springs on the first Tuesday evening of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  for Titles @ Twilight which promotes local authors, whose stories of history and the South represent a variety of topics from early aviation in Georgia to the memoirs of Jerry Lee Lewis' child bride and cousin. On  February 7: "A President in our Midst: Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Georgia" written by Kaye Minchew
Minchew who was the Executive Director of the Troup County Archives for over 30 years. Her book details President FDR's forty-one visits to Georgia between 1924 and 1945. A native New Yorker, FDR called Georgia his "other state." Titles @ Twilight is free to attend and takes place in the Garden Room at the Williams-Payne House, 6075 Sandy Springs Circle, Sandy Springs, GA.
History Lectures and Open House at Lost Corner Preserve
Join local historian Clarke Otten at Lost Corner Preserve and learn about the history of Sandy Springs.The lecture series is presented by Friends of Lost Corner (FOLC) and will take place on the  fourth Wednesday evening of the month through May at  7:30-8:30 pm.  
February 22: From Frontier Settlers to Community 1800-1860
March 22: Oak Grove (Sandy Springs) to the Civil WaR 1861-1865
April 26: Post-war Reconstruction to Bedroom Community 1870-1960
May 24: Roads, Churches and Schools, Milestones of Community Development 1820-1960
 
Friends of Lost Corner will also present a  Secret History of Lost Corner  lecture followed by an Open House :

3-4:00 pm - Secret History of Lost Corner Lecture
Learn the history of this unique property and about the previous owners and how they helped to shape the Sandy Springs area.
4-5:00 pm - Open House
Visit with members of the Friends of Lost Corner organization and tour the early 20th century farmhouse complete with charming architectural touches inside including a large gas fireplace with built-in benches and detailed leaded glass windows.

Let the Community Assistance Center help file tax returns and ensure maximum refunds and proper filing. Their team of trained and certified VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers are available to help filers earning up to $55,000 in 2016. Appointments are available now! We Celebrate New Businesses, New Locations, and Anniversaries 
Ribbon Cutting at Environscent
Mayor Paul was on hand as Enviroscent cut the ribbon on their new headquarters and Innovation Center in Sandy Springs. The fragrance company produces biodegradable, recyclable, compostable, sustainable managed paper in its products; infusing pure, essential oils and other responsibly selected and harvested ingredients.
Ribbon Cutting at Cafe Vendome
Mayor Paul and Louis de Corail, the French Consul General, along with members of the Chamber of Commerce helped snip the ribbon for the grand opening of Cafe Vendome - now open at 4969 Roswell Road.  Café Vendôme is an authentic artisanal French pastry bakery café, baking pastries and baguettes on-site all-day long  including gluten free products. They strive to a bring the traditional atmosphere of the Parisian pastry experience to Sandy Springs.
