 Open Public Forum
Come give your input on the future of the Library!
The Library Feasibility Committee invite you to its final presentation to see the possibilities, give your input, insight, and feedback. After the final presentation, a recommendation will be given to the Board of Library Trustees.
Architect J. Stewart Roberts will walk us through floor-plan layout, computer modeling, and cost estimate.
Light refreshments will be served. Contact Library Director, Peter Struzziero at (617) 993-2851 for more information.

In response to the refugee crisis several community groups, including the
Belmont Public Library,
Belmont World Film,
Beth El Temple Center, and
the First Church of Belmont, are presenting a series of three documentary film screenings followed by discussions on February 2 and 9, at the West Newton Cinema (1296 Washington Street, West Newton) and February 16, at the Belmont Public Library (336 Concord Avenue). All screenings begin at 7 PM.
Tickets for the screenings are available in advance at
Belmont World Film or at the door starting at 6:30PM.
Proceeds benefit the International Institute of New England (IINE) and the Refugee & Immigrant Assistance Center (RIAC).

 Fencing Workshop

In this two-hour workshop led by instructors from the Olympia Fencing Center, get an introduction and hands-on experience with the sport of fencing.
For kids ages 6-12.

Sciencetellers

Join the
Sciencetellers on this fast-paced adventure about two kids who find themselves racing against the clock. Watch things float, bounce, soar, and transform right before your eyes, all while exploring the concepts of surface tension, air pressure, chemical reactions, and more!

Belmont Story Project
This February, why not make time with a child, spouse, elder, or friend, to become part of the
Belmont Story Project? Modeled after
NPR's StoryCorps , the Belmont Story Project records interviews among Belmont residents. We take care of the technology and provide sample questions, so you can focus on enjoying the conversation. What better way to show a loved one you really care, than to make time to find out more about them?

Just fill out our
tech one-on-one help request form, or call 617-993-2870 and say that you'd like to request a session. We'll help you cover the basics on some of the most popular devices out there, including iPhones, iPads, Kindles, and more! We offer patrons up to two free 30-minute technology help sessions per month.

Music on Saturday - David Polansky's Music through the Decades: Love Songs
Saturday, February 11th 3pm, Assembly Room
Music through the Decades, gets a Valentine's Day twist at the Belmont Library. Come hear David tickle the ivories and blow that horn as he sings pop classics, including favorites from the Roaring 20s, the Great Depression, all the way through the Swingin' '60s. In between, David will discuss the history that inspired so many of the songs we love.

Librarian Miriam MacNair to discuss the life and work of poet Denise Levertov
Monday, February 13th at 11:00 AM Assembly Room, Belmont Public Library
Born in England in 1923, Denise Levertov emigrated in 1948 to the United States. She published her first book of poetry in England at the age of twenty-three, but it was not until she moved to the United States that she found her poetic voice, helped by poets William Carlos Williams, Robert Duncan, and Robert Creeley. Levertov was acclaimed by Kenneth Rexroth in The New York Times as 'the most subtly skillful poet of her generation.'
All are welcome to attend this free program, sponsored by the Friends of the Belmont Public Library. Refreshments will be provided. The Assembly Room is handicapped accessible.

Tai Chi at the Library

Join us on Saturday each month for the Library's Tai Chi Easy(TM) class. Tai chi practitioner and coach, Aisling O'Shea, will guide you through this beautiful and low impact form of martial art and meditation. The Garden Club, in collaboration with the Belmont Art Gallery and the Belmont Public Library, is presenting "Art Blooms in Belmont". The aim of this program is to inspire, encourage and appreciate various art objects as they are interpreted by Garden Club members through floral art. This exhibit will be open to the public free of charge.
