ECONOMIC GROWTH SUMMIT
 At an event in collaboration with the US Chamber of Commerce and Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner, the Illinois Chamber hosted the first in a series of #LetsGrow Tours sponsored by the the US Chamber. Before an audience of business owners and leaders from the Chicago area, keynote speaker and president and CEO of the US Chamber Tom Donohue focused on the important role a robust financial services sector plays in fueling economic growth. Donohue also highlighted several reforms lawmakers can pursue to strengthen this sector, including restructuring our financial regulatory system; reforming the regulatory processes of the Federal Reserve to facilitate economic growth and productivity; and pursuing regulatory fixes to restore lending to Main Street.

A WIN FOR THE CHAMBER AMICUS PROGRAM
 On January 20, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled in favor of Illinois Chamber of Commerce member firm Enterprise Leasing Company of Chicago, in Hertz Corporation and Enterprise Leasing Company of Chicago v. The City of Chicago. The court ruled that the City of Chicago's Administrative Ruling 11 violated the Home Rule article of the Illinois constitution because it has extraterritorial effect and is, therefore, an improper exercise of the City's home rule powers. The Supreme Court's ruling adopted the arguments made by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce in an amicus brief filed with the Supreme Court in this case on behalf of our member Enterprise Leasing.

Laura Ortega was back for a repeat lec
ture at Kellogg School of Management on January 20 to lead a discussion with the International Business Strategy class on management issues involved in the export decision. As most companies begin exporting casually without a well thought plan and clear commitment from management on the impact international expansions may have on the company, Ortega discussed with Professor Philip I. Levy's students what kinds of issues businesses face as they try to engage in international commerce covering things like location decisions, risk, production and capital capacity and questions about ownership type (e.g. contract, JV, or purchase).

BROCKSCHMIDT AND TFIC GROUP MEET IN DC TO DISCUSS INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT
Benjamin Brockschmidt joined other representatives of the Transportation for Illinois Coalition (TFIC) in Washington, DC, on January 23 and 24th to meet with members of the Illinois Congressional delegation on infrastructure investment. Since his election, President Trump has stressed that infrastructure investment is a key priority of his administration and earlier this week released a list titled "Emergency & National Security Projects" which included several projects in Illinois.
