Dear ,

In light of recent events, we are writing to remind you that we care about you and that we are here to support you. Your well-being and safety, and that of your loved ones, remains our very first priority at OISS. Please know that our door is open and our advisors are at your disposal during the days and weeks to come should you have any questions regarding your immigration status or concerns.

As you are aware, on Friday, January 27, 2017, a Presidential executive order was signed to prohibit foreign nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days. The order was put in place immediately and resulted in some level of confusion at U.S. ports of entry and abroad. Please be aware that policies are not being implemented consistently on the ground, and that the situation may change at any time.

OISS has set up a specific website that provides recent updates and guidance on the new Executive Order relating to your immigration status at UD and in the  US.  We continue to work with our campus partners and professional associations to assess this information and provide you with important resources.

Most recently, some of our international community has been targeted with a phone scam where callers present themselves as representatives of the FBI. More details on how to best protect yourself can be found online and those who are contacted as part of this scam should contact University Police at (302) 831-2222 immediately.

We realize that this may be a difficult time for you, our international community. All are invited to join us at the very first International Coffee Hour of the semester this Friday, February 3 from 4-6 p.m. in Old College Hall. OISS Advisors and staff members from the Center for Counseling and Student Development and Student Wellness will be on hand to provide you with any support you may need. There will also be coffee, tea, and cookies for you to snack on as you meet and mingle with friends!

Those who cannot attend International Coffee Hour but would like to speak with a counselor are welcome to schedule an appointment during normal business hours by calling (302) 831-2141. The UD helpline at (302) 831-1001 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all who need immediate support. Please know that International Coffee Hour takes place every Friday during the Spring semester. Be sure to join us whenever you can!

As always, we are your home away from home. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us at any time. We can be reached by phone at (302) 831-2115 or by email at [email protected], or simply stop by our office at 26 E. Main Street during normal business hours.

Sincerely,

Ravi Ammigan, Director
