THIS WEEK AT BLUE RIDGE SCHOOL

November 11, 2016

Shop with a Baron (SWAB) was created by members of the Parent Association to give students another opportunity to serve the community by mentoring area children before Christmas. The students raise money to give local children a chance to shop for Christmas presents for their parents so that they can actively participate in the gift giving spirit of the season.  Our students also pay for lunch for each child during the course of the day and help them wrap the gifts. To purchase a No Tie Day for your son, or to donate to SWAB, please click  here.

LEAVE REQUESTS: All students must have an online leave request form submitted for the Thanksgiving break by a parent on Boardingware.com ( https://app.boardingware.com/ ) by this evening. If you have questions, please contact Hans Hermanson at hhermanson@blueridgeschool.com.

VETERANS DAY: Today, the school community celebrated Veterans Day with a special assembly honoring those who have served our country. Photos and stories of family members who have served are on display today just outside the dining hall as well.

THE 22 PUSH-UP'S CHALLENGE:  Thanks to Associate Head Vinton Bruton's leadership, a number of Blue Ridge students and faculty members have been taking part in the 22 Push-Up's Challenge to raise awareness of veteran suicide prevention.  Either after morning assembly or Chapel, the group circles up and completes 22 push-up's as a group as Mr. Bruton barks commands.  For a video, click here.

ALL IN FUN: Students and a few adults, including Athletic Director Bryan Puckett, who had dared to declare their allegiance to the Cleveland Indians paid their 2016 World Series debts on Thursday.  Immediately after Chapel on what proved to be a chilly November morning, these good-natured fans jumped into the lake as equally good-natured Chicago Cubs fans and others applauded.  The jump had been delayed until Associate Head Franklin Daniels could return from his recent overseas trip.  No, he didn't have to jump.  Instead, he hoisted the Cubs "Winners" flag high for all to see!  A huge thank you to Coach Puckett and Mr. Daniels for making the bet and organizing the event. COLLEGE COUNSELING: Congratulations to senior Nick Roscoe on his acceptance to Immaculata University!

Admissions representatives from Savannah College of Art and Design and Longwood University met with interested juniors and seniors this week.

ATHLETICS: Justin Armwood was named the Falcon Player of the Week for the second time this year! Varsity Football heads to Virginia Beach today to face Atlantic Shores in the VISAA State Semi-finals at 7PM. Following their victory over Trinity last Saturday (27-24) the football team enjoyed a picnic at team manager Harrison Strickler's home.

Cross Country competes today in the VISAA Championships at Fork Union this afternoon. The team includes Paul Du '19, Taku Endo '18, Clarence Han '17, Justin Hu '19, Chris Knight '20, Adam Maisano '19, Dhruv Mehrotra '19, Jaab Veskijukul '18 and Jason Yu '18.

Blue Ridge lacrosse players competed in the Brine Fall Recruiting event at St. Paul's School in Baltimore on Sunday, November 6. The Barons played well as they came from behind to win their first two games 8-6 over the Susquehana Stripers and 7-6 over River Hill High School. Blue Ridge then never trailed in cruising to an 8-2 win over Baltimore City Lacrosse Club. The boys look to build on the momentum they gained as they face stiffer competition at the Uplax tournament in Annapolis this Sunday, November 13.
