NY State Meeting
NY State had excellent turn out at the state meeting April 22! A big thank you to Laura Little at ARISE for hosting.

If you attended, please take this survey.

I am looking for ideas for speakers for next year! I am hoping to host this meeting at GallopNYC, as we will have our new site. (2018 will be a regional meeting in upstate NY)

Any suggestions for topics and speakers please send my way - so far people have suggested webinars, more presentation on disabilities, and international speakers.

An item I overlooked - there was interest last year in trying to come up with standardized or model lesson plans and outcomes. If this is still of interest, please send me any outcomes materials - goals you like or use, measurement ideas, etc - and lesson plans. I will collect them and then we will see what we can do. At a minimum we can post a set of examples you can look at.

* Hoof Prints On The Heart was honored to attend the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County's, 2nd Annual Ride for Patriots Motorcycle Run, at the Manasquan VFW Post 1838 today. Hoof Prints President Jacki Hundertpfund and Executive Director Jenni Tevlin were in attendance, along with Monmouth County SPCA certified therapy dog, Sweet Pea, a 5-year-old Basset Hound who definitely stole everyone's hearts, despite the fact that she left paw prints instead of hoof prints!

Over 100 riders supported our military and helped to raise awareness of the mental health services that MHA offers to military and all families in Monmouth County by riding their motorcycles from the PNC Arts Center Vietnam Veterans Memorial to the Manasquan VFW Post 1838. There were several other vendors in attendance at the event, along with event sponsors, all with a common mission-to support our military and their families! Everyone capped off the day with a delicious BBQ lunch and was invited to watch a film screening of Project 22.

Hoof Prints on The Heart wants to thank all military members, first responders, and their families, for their service and their sacrifice, as well as the MHA of Monmouth County and all of the organizers and sponsors of today's activities. We were very proud to be a part of the Ride for Patriots and to share our mission of helping people and animals through animal assisted therapy. We hope that we can offer some assistance to those in need through our nonprofit Horses Helping Heroes Program at Hoof Prints on the Heart in Millstone Township, NJ, in the heart of beautiful Monmouth County.

Please visit our website www.hoofprintsontheheart.org for more information about how we may be able help you.

Announcement: Save the Date April 2, 2017 (after Region 2 conference)
Special Strides and Susie Rehr PT HPCS and Jane Burrows PT DPT HPCS will be presenting Exploring (dis)Abilities II on April 2, 2017. This comprehensive course received rave reviews during the April and May 2016 presentations... "this course covered more information than all conferences together". We will update with new information for those who have already attended and keep the important information for review. This is content that could be repeated a hundred times and never tire of repetition.

This 6- hour course is designed for PATH Intl Certified Professionals to explore the abilities and disabilities of individuals with special needs. A variety of diagnoses will be presented that instructors might encounter in their programs. It will discuss the presentation, implications, precautions and contraindications necessary as well as possible outcome expectations. It will answer the question.... "My new rider has cerebral palsy how does that affect how I teach?" or "my rider struggles with anxiety how can I best help him". Also covered will be a list of simple questions to ask riders or families and discuss how their responses influence goal setting and lesson planning. Case presentations followed by a question/answer session will be used to synthesize the new information.
