Racial Equity Workshop for Trainers & Facilitators

Are you working to address racial inequities through training, facilitation and coaching or do you have shared interest in developing those skills? In our efforts to support development of inclusive institutional cultures, policies and practices across this region, last fall we tested a Racial Equity Workshop training model from rural Michigan with about 90 participants and got positive feedback.

We are now looking for trainers and facilitators who want to learn how to offer Racial Equity Workshops and adapt this model for use in our region. The Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance’s (LEDA’s) four-hour workshop explores four dimensions of racism – internalized, interpersonal, institutional and structural – along with the role that history, cultural messages, human predispositions, and societal values play in shaping current social conditions. Workshop participants learn about the development and impact of implicit (unintentional) racial bias and proven strategies for reducing bias to create and sustain equity in our everyday lives and organizations.

Instructor Bio

The instructor is Gail Harrison of the Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance, a nonprofit in rural Michigan working to dismantle barriers to ensure people of all ethnic backgrounds have equal access and opportunity to participate fully in community life. Gail has deep experience teaching and coaching individuals and organizations to address racial equity as the Founder and Executive Director of the 20-year old Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance (LEDA). Gail and LEDA have mobilized thousands of resident volunteers in efforts to eliminate racial barriers and advance inclusion through education, advocacy, and engagement in LEDA programs.
