We are saying goodbye to three long-standing members of our Board of Trustees. We are so grateful to each of them for their dedication to the Episcopal Home residents,
and for their many years of service.
The Ven. Mary Martha Solbak has served on the Board of Trustees since 1989, and was appointed by Bishop McNutt. She has given special attention to the spiritual needs of our residents, and has been an advocate of The Episcopal Home in the Lancaster Convocation. She and her husband, Arne, are "Home Heroes."
Appointed by Bishop Creighton, Janet Rose has served since 1997. Recognizing the need for supporting those residents who are unable to pay the full rate of stay, Jan's efforts have been focused on fundraising. She has been a particular advocate of The Episcopal Home residents at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Shippensburg. Jan is a "Home Hero."
Betty MacLaughlin retires as our most recent Board of Trustees president. Betty has kept a steady, even hand at the helm. She has served on the Board for a total of ten years. Betty is a "Home Hero," and has represented The Episcopal Home at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Harrisburg, where she attends.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is,
'
What are you doing for others?'"
- Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Each of you made a difference in the lives of others.
Thank you so much!

Since 1963, February has been celebrated as American Heart Month to urge Americans to join the battle against heart disease. Since 2004, February also has been the signature month for the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign and the message that heart disease is not only a man's problem. Wear red on February 3rd to show your support.

February 14 - Valentine's Day

February 28 - Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is the day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. It originated during the Middle Ages when certain food items were restricted during Lent. Feasts were held to consume food items that would become spoiled during the next forty days. In France, the consumption of all fats and fatty foods on this day led to the name
Mardi Gras, meaning "Fat Tuesday."

Our Volunteers Are The Best!
Card games are one of the most popular activities here at the Home - maybe second only to Bingo!
We have wonderful volunteers who come on a regular basis to play cards with our residents. Plenty of laughter, conversation, and good natured joking always accompany these lively gatherings.

Pinch Hitting
When one of the "card ladies" can't be here, a staff member fills in so residents don't miss the fun. Here, our very own Nancy Hodge substitutes for one of the "regulars."

Cooking Club Begins This Month
Our Food Services Manager, Effie Hershey, is brimming with ideas for a Cooking Club that she will initiate on February 11. She was inspired by residents who said they loved to cook and miss cooking for family and friends. For their first session, Effie will help residents make Valentine cookies that they will cut out and decorate. She has plans for many more projects to follow. Cooking Club creations will be shared by all of the residents in the EH family.

We have a brand new online medication training system, and nursing assistant Shelby Horst was the first staff member to try it out. Here, Director of Nursing, Sherry Alexander, assists Shelby as she completes coursework that will lead to her Medication Trained Staff certification.
