TrEx - GNYC's Training Extravaganza

On Jan 7, 2017, nearly three-hundred Scouts and Scouters from New York City, Long Island, Westchester and New Jersey gathered at the Borough of Manhattan Community College for a day of training courses and information sessions geared to help each person improve in their specific role in Scouting.  The 2017 TrEx Committee and Instructors worked exceptionally hard to provide the best courses for parents, scouts and volunteers throughout the metropolitan area and provide content tailored to individual needs and requests.
I have attended the TrEx before and already attended the courses that were relevant to me.
This year’s TrEx saw 25 new courses introduced covering topics such as specific STEM experiments, gourmet campsite cooking, ice-breaking games, campfire program, high adventure and my.scouting.org tools among many others.
I am mostly interested in attending courses that helped me get “trained” for my position.
There were 13 specific BSA training courses offered at this past TrEx that provided position specific required training including Merit Badge Counselor Training, District Committee Training workshop and Unit Committee Member Training.  We also offered 4 Bachelor of Commissioner Science courses.  Over 220 people attended these courses, helping them to get fully trained for their position.
There should be more program for youth at the TrEx.
We continue to add sessions for youth.  This year we continued to run youth courses for Den Chief Training and ILST (pre-requisite for NYLT).  We tweaked curriculum for some courses to focus on youth as well as adults.  All told, there were 19 youth-friendly courses offered at this past TrEx.
