Greetings Eagle Chapter Members and Friends!

Wow!  What a great start to 2017!  A wreath laying at Bolling, a very significant promotion/swearing in ceremony at the Pentagon, and the receipt of great news from the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial in Washington DC!  We are off and running for 2017.

By the way, we still have several key absences that are in need of your talents:
 - Vice Chair Public Information
 - Vice Chair Tidewater Wing (Langley area)
 - Vice Chair Delaware Wing
 - Director of SF Airmen and Family Programs (this is a great spot for a spouse with access to any of our active duty installations who is familiar with the AF Key Spouse Program)

Let me know if you are interested. I look forward to talking to you about any one of these! Thank-you for your continuing support.

Very respectfully,

Lee

Eagle Member Sworn in as Chief of Police Pentagon Police Department
Woody, It was a tremendous honor for me to receive this invitation and in view of all of the dignitaries that attended, when you singled out the association - wow!  So pumped!  Thank you for your continuing support.
Eagle Member Woodrow "Woody" Kusse was sworn in as the 3d Chief of Police, Pentagon Police Department in a ceremony held February 14, Woody's birthday, at the Pentagon.  Eagle Vice Chairman Air Force District of Washington DC, Karl Blinkinsop, below in selfie with Chief Kusse at the reception that followed.
Chief Kusse is a retired Air Force Security Forces Chief Master Sergeant. Congratulations - we all stood a little taller with Woody's recognition.
Eagle Chapter's Wreath Laying at the Maisey Building at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in DC

Below, inside the Maisey Building, Vietnam Security Police Association Member and Eagle Chapter Member, Willie Squires, makes remarks and later lays the wreath with Eagle Chapter's Vice Chairman, Karl Blinkinsop,   at the Maisey  memorial on the second floor of the Maisey Building.

On the 49th Anniversary of the death of Captain Maisey January 31st at the Captain R. V. Maisey Building on Joint Base Anacostia Bolling Washington DC, Eagle Chapter commerated the heroic actions of "Reg" and other SF members of the 3d Security Police Squadron who gallantly defended Bien Hoa Air Base in Vietnam at the start of the Tet Offensive.

Willie speaks while Karl looks on.

In addition to laying the wreath, we left handouts that summarize Captain Maisey's actions on that fateful morning.

Eagle Chapter's Maisey Building 2017 Handout. Our thanks to the Vietnam Security Police Association for their assistance in providing the information used in this handout.

Captain Maisey was awarded the Air Force Cross, the second highest military award for valor.  Anyone that would like to provide updates of our chapter's publication, can contact Karl.  We'll keep the publication available at the Maisey Building.

We provided coffee and doughnuts for attendees in our appreciation of their support and rousing reception.

National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Agrees to Add Names of 66th SFS Airmen

Above, Senior Airman Kcey E. Ruiz and Senior Airman Nathan C. Sartain died in the October 2, 2015 crash of a C130J in Afghanistan.

On February 14, great news appeared in our chapter's post office box.  Craig Floyd, formally notified me that  the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial has approved the names of Airman Ruiz and Airman Sartain for inclusion in the memorial in Washington DC.  Their names will be formally recognized on May 13 at the 29th Annual Candlelight Vigil during Police Week.

Below is a note that I received from the research manager just days before the letter:

Dear Mr. Chambers,

Just a quick note to let you know that both officers have been approved for inclusion on the Memorial. A formal letter will follow next week.

Sincerely,

Carolie Heyliger

Our Next NLEOM SF Application is Shaping Up

When informed by Dave Coulie, AF Security Forces Association's Pete Magwood Chapter's Vice Chairman, that the NLEOM had preliminarily determined that Captain George Morris' name could be included in th e memorial, Colonel Dustin G Sutton, 377 Security Forces Group Commander, and the unit's point of contact, Senior Airman Taylor Nelson, were all over it.

In just a few short weeks, Airman Taylor had collected a news article of Capt Morris' death which occurred in 1958.

Above is a screen shot from the Albuquerque Journal that featured Captain Morris' death while assigned at Kirtland Air Force Base NM. Capt Morris died instantly when the wheel of an airplane exploded during a mishap at the base.
Thanks to Col Sutton and Airman Nelson for getting the ball rolling on recognizing another one of our heroes.  When approved, Captain Morris will be the first Security Forces officer to be inscribed on the wall. We will keep you posted.

National Park Service Approves Our Dates
Above, volunteers participate in a previous Eagle Chapter Wall Wash in Washington DC.

Approved!  The NPS has approved our dates for washing the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial - Saturday April 29th and Saturday August 26th.

More information to follow as we get closer to these dates.  I look forward to seeing you.
Annual Donation Drive - Thanks - From our CFO/Treasurer
A short recap and words of thanks to our supporters!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our generous members for making the 2016-2017 Annual Donation Drive a huge success. When the four month drive began on October 1st, our treasury balance was significantly below the previous year's balance at the same point.  By the end of the drive, 21 members donated just over $2,000.00 and pushed our starting balance for the new calendar year above the previous year's balance.

Because of their generosity, the chapter is able to continue its annual support of our local security forces units, families and events.
