Message from
Executive Director
Walter X. Kalman
Our profession demands ethical behavior from social workers, and it goes to great lengths to teach, support and regulate the ethical behavior of NASW members. Should we accept any less from our nation's President and his administration?
Since the Inauguration, we've seen repeated instances of questionable ethical behavior. We would all agree that the President should set the highest ethical standards and be a role model for all Americans. Even the President's Supreme Court nominee has made this clear.
Some will point to other leaders, and other administrations, and say that they have not always had the highest ethical standards. But we only have one President now, and we cannot differ on the rule of law and the principles of ethical governance. These are the foundations upon which our democracy was built and is sustained.
We will hold our profession to the highest ethical standards and we should expect our national leaders to do the same. It is our duty to hold our government accountable; the government works for us. I encourage all of you to reach out to the President and to your state elected leaders. and demand that we see the highest ethical behavior in the nation's leadership.

The campaign will focus on educating the public about how social workers stand up for others, including some of the most vulnerable people in our society, and make positive contributions to society. The campaign will also highlight the importance of the social work title, and why getting the assistance of an educated and licensed social worker is so important. Look for more details about the campaign to be posted
