Milford Teacher Honored as Hometown Hero
Pattison teacher Missy Breuer was honored in January by Peoples Bank through their Hometown Heroes program. She was recognized for her efforts in creating a Monarch garden at Pattison, and received a plaque and a check for $500 to continue work on the garden.

Last year, in partnership with the Cincinnati Nature Center, Mrs. Breuer received a garden grant from the University of Minnesota to implement a school yard garde n to support the disappearing Monarch population. Mrs. Breuer then organized a group of Pattison's fifth graders to begin a garden club during the 2015-16 school year.

"Our club broke ground in the spring of 2016 and planted eight different species of milkweed and other Monarch-friendly plants. During the final week of school last year, my 5th grade students created learning activities to educate the teachers and students at other grade levels about Monarchs, milkweed and our Pattison pollination station," Mrs. Breuer said.

Pattison Principal, Missy Borger shared, "Mrs. Breuer has a passion for science and inspiring students to also contribute to make Pattison and the world a better place by getting dirty! She organized a Garden Club at Pattison and together they helped bring this dream of making a monarch butterfly garden come alive."

McCormick Yearbook Named the Best in Nation
Congratulations to McCormick Elementary for having its 2015-2016 yearbook named the Best Elementary Yearbook in the Nation  in the Lifetouch Yearbook Showcase Contest.

The theme of McCormick's yearbook was building strong character traits. The cover featured hands showcasing the five points of character - Responsibility, Trust Worthiness, Respect, Citizenship, and Caring. During a character building lesson sixth grade students  were asked to write the character trait that best describes them on their hand. Pictures were taken of each student and collage cutouts of the sixth graders highlighting their individual character traits were used throughout the book tying together the character theme.
