Sector Strategy and local growth
The economy is vibrant in Lane County and the Chamber is actively supporting traded-sector businesses, helping them solve issues and take advantage of the many growth opportunities, with the goal of retaining and creating jobs in the Eugene-Springfield area. Locally we have embraced the concept of sector strategy, working with specific sectors to support and help them grow.

We are actively involved in three sectors --  Technology, Manufacturing and Food and Beverage.  Each were selected based their existing footprint in Lane County and growth potential. For example, the manufacturing sector is expected to add 16,800 jobs between 2014 and 2024. Our sector strategy work helps pave the way for employment, infrastructure, commercial space and access to energy to make Eugene a highly desirable place for businesses.

Businesses Beware:
Increase in Commercial Burglaries

Eugene Police's Property Crimes detectives have noticed a recent spike in commercial burglaries. Both southwest Eugene have experienced an uptick. In many cases, entry has been gained by breaking windows or forcing doors.

There are steps that businesses can take to help them become a harder target to hit:
  • Ensure good quality deadbolt locks on all exterior doors and inside security doors
  • Windows should have secure locks and burglary resistant glass or film
  • Ensure good lighting inside and out, especially around doors, windows and other entry points
  • Keep plants and landscaping trimmed so as not to provide cover
  • Consider a security alarm system
  • Install video surveillance with remote alert features
  • Get a free security inspection by a crime prevention specialist
Eugene Police Crime Prevention is offering Eugene businesses free security inspections and recommendations. Eugene businesses can contact their crime prevention specialist for a free security inspection. To contact your specialist, you can visit the police department's crime prevention pages
