A full season of shows
set in Maine!
We are thrilled to announce our full season of shows for the 2017-2018 season, all performing at the Portland Ballet Studio Theater.
Anything Helps God Bless
The story of panhandlers on the median strip versus the City of Portland - a 100% true tale, told in the voices of those involved - city councilors, police, lawyers, advocates, the public, and the panhandlers themselves. World premiere.
Sept 29 - Oct 8
Conquest of the South Pole
To battle the challenges of unemployment and loss of hope, four Rumford Maine mill workers re-enact Amundsen's race to the South Pole, but not all will survive the journey. New England premiere.
Jan 26 - Feb 4
A Cherry Orchard in Maine
This new adaptation tells of a centuries-old family of Mainers with a Midcoast farm and rare cherry orchard soon to be lost for unpaid back taxes. Based on Chekhov's classic, this world premiere is quirky, timely, and fits Maine like a moose in a meadow.
Apr 20 - 29
ANYTHING HELPS GOD BLESS
workshop plays to sold-out houses!
The two performances of Anything Helps God Bless were so well received that a full production is now planned for the fall! Thanks go to the amazing cast for their brave performances, the generous press who covered our venture, and the audiences who gave their time and thoughtful comments during the two talkbacks. Here are some shots from the workshop - enjoy!
The ensemble (Sam Carlson, Cathy Counts, Harlan Baker, Natasha Salvo, Callie J. Cox, Eric Darrow Worthley, Pat Scully, Patricia Mew, Chris Newcomb, Tom Handel, Bob Pettee) portray panhandlers,
who call themselves "signers"
Part of the show recreates interviews of the signers by
Snowlion Rep cast members
The trial to determine the constitutionality of the median strip
ordinance
goes forward
Members of the Portland community speak out about homelessness, giving, and the complexity of the issues involved
