Sandra's Story
I'm very proud to have the opportunity to share my story. I came to the Women's Opportunity Center after I broke my wrist and because of that I couldn't hold onto my job. I had to get surgery on it and couldn't preform my job anymore and it forced me into a difficult period. Without the Women's Opportunity Center I don't know where else I would have gone.

At the Women's Opportunity Center everyone is welcoming and caring, and they encouraged me not just to find work again but to make a difference. Their mission is to make a difference. They're not doing it for the money; they're doing it for the love.

They walked me through how to do a job interview well, gave me clothes to wear during my interviews. They're helping me to find a new career. I come from an era where you had one job your whole life - now it's not like that. The kind of work I did... it was always hands on. After my injury I couldn't do that sort of work anymore. The Women's Opportunity taught me computer skills; they gave me lab time so I can pursue another career.
They gave me hope and self-esteem at a time when I had little left. I'm an artist and they encouraged me in that - they even hung some of my artwork in their office.

They open the door for you. Now I see the light at the end of the tunnel and it's getting bigger. What they do is a hand up, not a hand out, and I can never say enough good things about the work Women's Opportunity Center does... I could go on and on. They've helped me come back from the ashes.
