Presentation Field Day 2017

Public speaking skills are ranked number one among the desired skill sets of professionals. Every 4-H member is encouraged to give a presentation each year. A 4-H presentation can be a demonstration, include audio-visual aids, and involve problem solving. Through their presentations, youth learn to research a subject, organize their ideas into a logical order and practice public speaking skills.

4-H Healthy Living Summit Wrap Up

The CA Southern Area had a very successful "Healthy Living Summit" with 50 plus participants.
4-H'ers danced, ran, sewed, did yoga, listened and snacked all afternoon.  We served others by making 100 lunch bags for the homeless and 25 smile dolls for children who have cleft lip and cleft palate.
The DSOC Super Kids 4-H club enthusiastically participated and stole the show. It was truly a joyful occasion.

Dutch Oven Cooking & Outdoor Adventures
 Projects open to all clubs looking for members!
Attention 4-Her's,
 
Are you interested in learning about Dutch Oven Cooking or Outdoor Adventures? Orange Villa Buckaroos has two exciting projects to open up as a cross club opportunity. No experience is necessary for either project and they are open to 4-Hers of all ages.
 
4-Hers in the Dutch Oven Cooking project will learn how to make delicious meals in a dutch oven. Skills learned will include coal lighting and placement, temperature control, and baking in a dutch oven.
 
4-Hers enrolled in Outdoor Adventures will learn about preparing for the outdoors through day hikes, learning about packing essentials and rules of terrain, practicing map reading skills, and learning about camping basics.
 
The projects meet 3-4 Saturday's - typically in the morning. If you are interested or would like to find out more information contact  [email protected].



Southern Area 4-H Leaders Retreat
April 7-9th - Big Bear, CA

Join 4-H volunteers from southern California and beyond in the San Bernardino Mountains for a weekend retreat full of networking opportunities, educational workshops and tracks, speakers, recreation opportunities, and more!  This retreat is open to any 4-H volunteer in California.  Click the registration link for more information and to register.  Please share with all your fellow volunteers!

The retreat will be held at The Lodge at Big Bear Lake.  We have rooms available for a group rate.  They are first come, first serve and must be booked by March 24 at 5:00 pm.  
New Federal Regulations: Vet Feed Directive
Potential impact on 4-H livestock projects

As of January 1, 2017, all medically-important antibiotics for use in or on feed and in water now require a veterinary feed directive (VFD) or a prescription. This new requirement will affect many livestock producers including 4-H members. 

The State 4-H Office, in coordination with the UC Davis Veterinary Medicine Extension, and the California Department of Food and Agriculture hosted a one hour webinar to explain the new regulations and their implications.
