From the Program Director

Sarah Chandonnet

When mental illness strikes, it can be hard for patients, friends, and family to know how to respond. This Sunday, join Dr. Omar Sultan Haque for a conversation about mental health, and find out about the science of why stigma occurs and how to reduce it: individually, and in community.

Dr. Haque is a social scientist and psychiatrist at Harvard and is Co-Director of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics, American Unit.

He has published various articles in the sciences and humanities, including on dehumanization in hospital cultures, brain imaging in dementia, financial conflicts of interest in medicine, why westerners have joined ISIS, why physicians were early joiners of the Nazi party, religious motivations for cooperation, the extent and nature of religious prosociality, the developmental and social psychology of religion, Islamic philosophy, how common knowledge improves coordination, the psychology of indirect speech, as well as numerous papers and books in bioethics, and law and psychiatry.
