Hurricane Matthew will hammer parts of eastern Florida and other parts of the Southeast coast starting Thursday and continuing into the weekend. Though the National Hurricane Center's (NHC) projected path map is subject to change, the severity of any direct impacts will depend on how close the center of Matthew moves near the coastal areas.
All U.S. Law Shield Members from Florida to coastal Georgia and the Carolinas should continue to monitor the forecast closely and make necessary preparations for a hurricane. Those in eastern Florida should make those preparations as soon as possible.
Many of our Members in the region have voiced questions about what to do with their firearms, leave them or take them? And if they take their firearms, what are the rules about transporting firearms across state lines? And, if your governor declares a state of emergency or orders a mandatory evacuation, do you know what that means regarding your rights to carry or transport your firearms?
We turned to our U.S. Law Shield of Florida Independent Program Attorney David Katz for his advice to those caught in the path of Hurricane Matthew.
