2017 Chrism Liturgies From Bishop William O. Gafkjen:
The locations for these liturgies have been chosen after a great deal of conversation and thought. As we have moved away from ten such liturgies each Lent to four or five, we have tried to move them around in a way that ensures that as many folks as possible have access to one. Thanks to our geography, this is a challenging task which was complicated a bit this year by the effort to do up to four of the liturgies with our Episcopal sisters and brothers.  Read more or RSVP for your date and location here

Traces of the Trade - Brennan Lecture Series
Church leaders are invited to attend two screenings, at St. Andrew's Church in Louisville, KY, on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4, that will navigate through the impact and legacy of filmmaker Katrina Browne's ancestors, the largest slave-trading family in American history, and the Episcopal Church's steps in 2006 to propel racial reconciliation. The documentary "Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North" tells the story of her forefathers as she retraces their footsteps with nine of her fellow DeWolf descendants. The issues confronted in "Traces of the Trade" approach questions that apply to the nation:

* What is the legacy of slavery-for diverse whites, for diverse blacks, for diverse others?
* Who owes who what for the sins of the fathers of this country?
* What history do we inherit as individuals and as citizens?
* How does Northern complicity change the equation?
* What would repair - spiritual and material - really look like and what would it take?

Register and to learn more.

CHURCH-WIDE NEWS

Who's work is it?
In her February column for Living Lutheran, Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton lifts up the need for well-trained pastors and deacons. Where do we find these potential leaders? She says it's the "work of the entire church." Read her column in English at here or in Spanish here.

"God's work. Our hands." Sunday
This special day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. The suggested date for the 2017 dedicated day of service is Sunday, Sept. 10. Mark your calendars today! If your congregation cannot participate on this date, please consider another day.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ - every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life - flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God's grace.

You work every day to make your community a better place. Let us continue doing this work together in 2017! View the video and access resources to guide your congregation's planning, promotion and more.
