Dallas North Tollway from the President George Bush Turnpike to Parker Road closed overnight Feb. 3-4
Tollway main lanes, multiple ramps will be closed

Crews will close the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) between the DNT/President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) interchange and Parker Road from 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, through 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
The full closure will allow crews to remove overhead signs, install fencing, shift concrete barriers on the southbound main lanes, work on underpass lighting and progress work on the direct-connector ramps. This work would otherwise require several nights of multi-lane closures. The closure will last approximately eight hours, allowing crews to safely and quickly complete the work with less impact to traffic.

Law enforcement will be stationed at all closed entrance ramps to prevent drivers from entering the construction area. The closure will include the direct-connector ramps from the PGBT to the northbound DNT and from the southbound DNT to the PGBT.

Detours will be in place:

Southbound DNT detour: Take the Parker Road exit ramp and continue south on Dallas Parkway (the DNT frontage road.) Drivers can reenter the DNT using the entrance ramp south of Plano Parkway.

Northbound DNT detour: Take the Plano Parkway exit ramp and continue north on the frontage road. Drivers can reenter the DNT using the entrance ramp north of Parker Road.

East- and westbound PGBT to northbound DNT detour: Exit at Midway Road, turn north on Midway Road and continue to Parker Road. Drivers can make a right onto Parker Road and follow Parker Road to northbound Dallas Parkway, where they can turn left to enter the DNT.

Southbound DNT to east- and westbound PGBT detour: Take the Parker Road exit ramp and continue south on the frontage road to Frankford Road. Then make a U-turn and enter the northbound DNT. Drivers can enter the PGBT from the northbound DNT to PGBT direct-connector ramp.

The Tollway will reopen to traffic at 6 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.

All closures are subject to weather conditions and may be postponed. Expect traffic delays during the closure, and use caution in the construction area.

As always, we appreciate your patience during the ongoing construction.

Widening of Sam Rayburn Tollway on the Horizon
Community Open Houses Scheduled in February

The Sam Rayburn Tollway (SRT) is next in line to be widened with new lanes for better traffic flow.

Construction is expected to begin in mid-2018 to add a lane in each direction for the entire 26-mile-length of the road. Similar to the President George Bush Turnpike widening project, the new lanes will be built in the median space, which will limit the impact to traffic during construction. Work is expected to be complete by the end of 2020.

NTTA will share details of the planned SRT widening project at two upcoming community open houses:

5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21
Creek Valley Middle School
4109 Creek Valley Blvd.
Carrollton, TX 75010

5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23
Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church Atrium
1015 Sam Rayburn Tollway
Allen, TX 75013

You're invited to stop by any time during either open house to see project maps and talk with experts.

Red Thumbs and Roses for Valentine's Day

Make your loved ones feel extra special for Valentine's Day. Along with traditional red roses, wear an NTTA Red Thumb band to show you're committed t o saf e driving. You can  even pick up free Red Thumb bands for your family and friends.

Nearly two dozen municipal and retail partners across North Texas have joined NTTA in the Red Thumb movement - a national safety campaign aimed at ending texting and driving. The movement encourages drivers to make some part of their thumbs red, reminding them to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all times.

Distracted driving statistics paint a grim picture: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , an estimated 3,179 people were killed nationally (10 percent of all crash fatalities) and an additional 431,000 were injured (18 pe
rcent of all crash injuries) in motor vehicle crashes involvĀing distracted drivers in 2014. Moreover, 71 percent of young people say they have sent texts while driving.

Drivers can show their support by wearing a specially made NTTA "W8 2 TXT" (wait to text) thumb band to help them think "STOP" as they reach for their phones while driving. Red Thumb bands are available for free at any NTTA TollTag store . Drivers can also visit NTTA's blog, Driving North Texas , and take a virtual pledge not to text and drive.
