News From The Field:
Seed Savers Association Underway

Continuing the success of last year's initial seed saving training, the core group of seven Seed Savers in Tublay, Benguet are in the process of forming an official association to manage, lead and grow these seed saving initiatives. Each core group farmer is inviting one dedicated farmer to join the association (they must have 15 members to start an association in the Philippines). By expanding this group we will double the number of farmers actively saving seeds in the greater Tublay region. These efforts will lead to improved bio-diversity, greater access to locally produced organic seeds, and significant financial savings for farmers as they will no longer need to purchase seeds after each planting.

During a recent meeting of the Seed Savers they were asked to share what they learned from being a part of the group in 2016.  Organic Farmer Pastor Andrew Bandiwan shared the following:

"To get good results, one has to be really committed and sure about one's mission and vision. I have been very excited to try out new varieties of seeds. I am excited to welcome more and more people to this program. With the proper guidance and continued training we will all succeed in our seed production."
