February 15, 2017 Thirty-Seventh Edition

February 15, 2017

TO:  Honorable Executive Board & Chapter Directors

I know that a lot of our members are inquiring about our MOU Bill.  Below is the latest information from our lobby team at Aaron Read and Associates.  Please pass this along to all our officers and members.

The MOU bill has cleared both the budget and policy committees in the Senate.  The bill will be heard on the Senate floor on Friday (they are meeting on Friday since next Monday is a holiday).

We do not expect any difficulty in the bill making it to the Governor's desk, although the legislation is receiving a party-line vote - the Democrats are voting for it and the Republicans are not.  The Senate bill is the only vehicle - no Assembly bill.  The Speaker's staff is expecting to get the bill next week.  We are having continual conversations with their Labor consultant, George Wiley, and we are expecting to expedite the bill in the second house.  The Governor will sign the bill when it reaches him.  We expect that to be in about two weeks.

As soon as it leaves the Senate and is approved to go to the Governor's desk that will start our clock for the ratification process.  If you have questions regarding our time-frames for ratification, please refer to our Constitution and Operating Policies which can be found on the member's side of our webpage.

Please be safe out there!

Fraternally,

Mike Lopez
President

Officials are rushing to repair the spillways at the Oroville Dam in Northern California and lower the water level in Lake Oroville before rain arrives later this week.
