Join us for a day of music, art and crafts from Japan, China and Korea. Learn to make Chinese paper lanterns; create Korean traditional paintings and tapestries; and see how ikebana is created using time-honored principles of Japanese flower arranging, all while listening to the uplifting melodies by the Koto and Harp Duo .

Bring your children and pick up one of our new Family Fun Guides or participate in a Treasure Hunt. Both were created by our clever docents to make exploring the garden even more fun for families .
   
12pm - 3pm: Chinese Lantern-Making
Learn how to make different kinds of traditional Chinese paper lanterns with members of the garden's Asian Arts Council.

12pm - 3pm: Korean Minhwa Folk Painting and Tapestry Workshops  
Enjoy a rare chance to learn to create traditional paintings and tapestries with trained instructors. (Sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles)

1pm - 1:45pm: Japanese New Year's Ikebana Arrangement Demonstration  
Learn about traditional Japanese flower arranging with Hiromi Sato and Katey Ho, of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Ohara School of Ikebana. (Sponsored by Yvonne Chang of the Storrier Stearns Asian Arts Council)

2pm - 2:45pm: Koto and Harp Musical Performance
Enjoy uplifting melodies performed on the strings by master performers Saeko Kujiraoka and Miriam Suzuki of the
Koto and Harp Duo . (Sponsored by the Japan Foundation, Los Angeles)

The Citron Trunk Sale will return in January from
12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Citron transforms silk and other textiles into contemporary, wearable works of art inspired by Asian traditional patterns. Buying something beautiful helps the garden too since a portion of the sales is donated.
 
 
Open Day Last Sunday is from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Docent tour at 11:00.
Admission is $10:00 at the gate or you may make a reservation for $7.50 on our website. Members receive free admission.
Children 12 and under are also free.The garden is wheelchair accessible. Sorry, no pets allowed.
 

Remember: The City of Pasadena prohibits our visitors from parking on the surrounding residential streets. Please follow the signs to park on-site. On Open Day Last Sunday, parking is also available in the lot we share with the Westridge School on Madeline Drive. It is accessible from Pasadena Avenue.





   
   
Jazz on Second Sundays

On Second Sundays, pianist and composer, David Arnay presents a series of afternoon concerts featuring some of the greatest artists of the L.A. jazz scene. Coming up next month, renown guitarist, Riner Scivally, will be joined by Rob Kyle on sax and flute and Mike Alvidrez on bass. The trio will be playing a mixture of jazz-standards, Brazilian tunes and original compositions. Don't miss these Jazz Sunday afternoons--the first one was a huge success!

Coming Up...



Open Day Last Sunday in February will feature a performance by GOH, an international performer who plays stunning arrangements of familiar global melodies, as well as his own unique music. Sponsored by The Japan Foundation, the performance is free with garden admission and will be at 2:00 p.m. on February 26.





Take a docent tour, free with admission at 2:00 p.m. on Open Thursday and 11:00 a.m. on Open Day Last Sunday. Reservations for the tours are not necessary but if there are more than six people in your group, please
email the garden to let us know.
 
Volunteer in the garden--it's a beautiful place to work. If you enjoy our programs, you can assist with events and attend for free. If you simply like spending time in the garden, you can help with our Open Days. To apply, email your interest to: Volunteer!   and someone will be in touch with you.

Experience the peace of the garden on Open Thursday and on the last Sunday of every month. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may make a reservation for admission on our website for $7.50 or pay $10 upon arrival (children 12 and under are free.) The garden is wheelchair accessible.
