Snowmobiling and Enjoying the Great Outdoors

Brock Township is great place to live and play for those who love to snowmobile. With  plenty of trails , and dedicated volunteers who make using these trails possible, this winter sport is one that is enjoyed by all ages in the Township of Brock. The Heart of Ontario Snowmobile Club provides up to date trail conditions and all information that you need before heading out on your sled.  

Before venturing out on the trails, make sure to also review the Township of Brock Snowmobile By-law. 
Public Works Department News

Brock Sports Hall of Fame Nominations are still being accepted!  Nominating an athlete, coach and/or volunteer is easier than ever! Make sure to submit your nomination   online  no later than March 4, 2017.

March Break Camp Registration is now open.  Join us for themed games, crafts and
activities  March 13th - 17th at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre in Cannington from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • March 13th - Cinco De Mayo
  • March 14th - Halloween
  • March 15th - Christmas
  • March 16th - Easter
  • March 17th - St.Patrick's Day 
Register your child for a day or for the whole week! Registration closes Friday March 10th at 3:00 p.m.

May 27th and 28th is the Beaver River Trail Run and Ride. The Saturday will feature the run, and the Sunday will feature the ride. Both days offer categories for every level and ability. Register today!

The Winter Fitness Schedule is well under way.  For more information on the programs and registration visit the Township of Brock Recreation Website.

Reminder to Taxpayers

The first and second installments of the 2017 Interim Tax Bills are due on or before
February 21, 2017 and  April 21, 2017.
 
Payment can be made at most Financial Institutions or at the Municipal Office, Cannington. (Telephone/Online Banking is available through most major banking institutions).  A drop box is available at the Municipal Building for after hours.  You can pay your taxes with Visa or Mastercard using a third party credit card company.  Payments made through Plastiq will incur a fee.  View their terms and conditions at www.plastiq.com.  This option is available online ONLY.  Please allow sufficient time for your payment to be received in the Municipal Office by the due date.

  A penalty of 1.25 % will be applied on the first day of the month following the due date and the first day of each calendar month thereafter in which default continues. 
 
Commercial and Industrial Vacancies
If your commercial or industrial property was vacant for more than 90 consecutive days in 2016, you may qualify for a Vacancy Rebate.  Please visit our website or our office to obtain an application form and verify your property meets the qualifying criteria.  Applications must be received by February 28, 2017 for the 2016 tax year.
 
Charitable Organization Rebate
Qualifying charitable organizations, which are included in the Commercial/Industrial Tax Class of Property owners, are eligible for a 40% reduction of their taxes.  Eligible charities are defined in section 248(1) of the Income Tax Act (Canada) that have a registration number issued by the Canada Customs & Revenue Agency.  Qualifying charities must apply annually to their local municipality for this rebate.  Application must be made by Feb 28, 2017 for the 2016 tax year.

Tax Adjustments
Applications are available at the Municipal Office to apply for an adjustment to taxes under Section 357 of the Municipal Act, 2001, c.25.  An example for such an adjustment is a building damaged by fire, demolition or otherwise.  An application under this section must be filed with the Treasurer on or before February 28 of the year following the year in respect of which the application is made.
North Durham Community Survey
 
Durham Workforce Authority is asking residents to participate in the North Durham Community Survey. The intent of the survey is to create a better understanding of the needs of Northern Durham Communities.  Those who complete the survey will have the option to enter a contest to win an iPad !

Exploring Value-Added Opportunities Workshop

March 31, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 
Sunderland Memorial Arena

Register today for the Exploring Value-Added Opportunities Workshop! For only $20.00 you will learn  how to generate new ideas for value-added products and services on your farm, assess your ideas and business potential, identify and
manage potential risks and determine and plan what it take to turn your idea into reality. You will also receive resources materials, lunch and refreshments. 

This Workshop is being held on conjunction between the Township of Brock Economic Development Advisory Committee, OMAFRA, the Brock Board of Trade (BBOT) , and the  Region of Durham Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Economic Development Department .
Business Retention & Expansion Project

Existing tourism businesses across the Township of Brock are now the focus of a new community based local economic development initiative. This initiative, known as a Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) project, will support local business development and job creation in the tourism sector. Read more here...
