SHOW AND PROVE
At The Commons, we believe modeling positive behavior promotes a positive, forward thinking community. We make an effort t o show our youth they can successfully take on challenges, and that they can succeed in life.
As a new component of our high school programming, our youth have been participating in  Mini Moguls Back in December, teens from The Commons opened up youth savings accounts with Carver Federal Savings Bank. They were fully immersed in  the banking process and learned how to make deposits for the first time. T he o pening of the savings accounts launched the Mini Moguls Matching Program, where teens commit to deposit $5-$10 per pay cycle while having the funds matched by a donor. Additionally, they have been learning financial terms,  building budgets, and developing entrepreneurial projects.
On January 25th, Commons teens attended  t he Agenda  trade  s how. Having expressed interest in starting a clothing line, Champion Sportswear welcomed our youth to network and gather information on creating their business. Manny Martinez, head of Champion's marketing division, wanted the teens to connect with entrepreneurs of color successfully working in the industry they seek to enter. He felt it was important our youth see educated people, with similar cultural experiences and backgrounds to their own, being progressive and creative. It was a memorable and inspiring experience for youth and staff alike.
KINDNESS IS CONTAGIOUS
And enthusiasm is infectious, thank you all for spreading the love. While February is Black History Month , and we appreciate the importance of American history, we would like to take the opportunity this month to celebrate kindness. The simplest act of kindness often goes a long way in making a real impact in someone's life. We are reminded everyday how the kindness found in our community shapes the lives of the youth and families we serve. We thank all of you for sharing your time and funds with us, and encourage you to continue committing random acts of kindness as often as you can. In support of Random Acts of Kindness week (February 12th-18th), we suggest you visit their website to learn how you can become a raktivist and keep the kindness going!

There are so many ways to support our mission!
Please spread the word by sharing our newsletter and inviting your friends to like our social media pages; enthusiasm is infectious!
