Reading the House: A Close Look at the Architecture of the Fabbri Mansion

Fierce Conversations: Learning to Communicate for Effective Organizational Growth and Change

This Congregational Development training is designed for English-speaking congregations, especially those who are faced with big decisions, and/or who want to have more meaningful and productive conversations. Each participating congregation is asked to send a clergy-lay team of 2-8 persons. (Churches planning to participate in the Crossroads workshop in April will benefit by having completed Fierce Conversations training beforehand.)

Fierce Conversations training teaches people how to have vital conversations that interrogate reality, provoke learning, resolve tough challenges and enrich relationships. Participants will come away not only energized but also with skills to engage in conversations that encourage collaboration and move beyond "business as usual" to address issues honestly and openly. Training will include active opportunities to practice the skills presented.

Congregations at a Crossroads: Working Together in the Resurrection of Hope in Our Congregations

Diocesan Fund for Clergy Critical Needs
Applications due Thursday, March 2, 2017
(for consideration at the March 9 meeting of the Committee)

The Diocesan Fund for Clergy Critical Needs Committee allocates grants to canonically resident priests, deacons or congregations of the Diocese of New York, as follows: 

  

1. Medical/dental and other needs:  To assist priests or deacons who have expenses related to severe illnesses or other household crises, lapsed medical insurance premiums, financial emergencies caused by unemployment and unusual medical or dental expenses.  See the application form here .

  

2. Educational grants: a.) to the children of priests or deacons with special needs or liv ing in critical mission areas where public schooling is clearly inadequate; and b.) to aid undergraduate college tuition for children of priests or deacons. Undergraduate education grants, which are only processed during the June meeting each year, have in recent years been in the amount of $2,000 for each student.  See the application form here .

St. James' Church Grants
Applications due Friday, March 24

Grants are available for local non-profit organizations, specifically direct-service programs that meet human needs in New York City, with particular interest in programs providing food and shelter and services to strengthen families, rehabilitate prisoners and enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth. The grant range is $3,000-7,000, and priority will be given to small, community-based organizations with budgets under $300,000. Parishes are asked to share this information with eligible organizations in the area (especially those that partner with churches or work within the boundaries of the Diocese). Church Club of New York Welcomes Episcopal Clergy to Join
The Church Club of New York has made changes to its Constitution and Bylaws, allowing Episcopal clergy to join for the first time in its 130 year history.  The Church Club provides inter-church fellowship and educational programs, and supports theological education and service ministries conducted by young adults. In addition to inviting clergy to become members, the Church Club has revised its dues structure to make it easier for everyone to connect and engage. Dalit Rights Report

In accordance with the Dalit Rights resolution passed at the 2015 Diocesan Convention, the diocese's India Network has prepared and published a paper describing the plight of the Dalit (formerly known as "Untouchables") in India and in the Indian diaspora.
