Beginner Self-Defense Class
Thank you to Middlesex Community College for providing the space and to instructor Joshua Munoz from
Ocasio's True Martial Arts for teaching a beginner self-defense class in April.
From this class, we learned common avoidable scenarios, ways to pay attention and be alert, a few wrist grabs, front and rear chokes, and simple striking to keep distance.

Committee Member Spotlight: Matt Brousseau
Matthew Brousseau is employed full time as the Service Manager at Cintas located in Chelmsford, MA. Matt has volunteered for the A.M.S.I. Foundation for the past five years, helping with the scholarship selection process, at the Hallows Eve 5k Fun Run, and co-chairing the Greens Fore Grads Golf Tournament. When Matt is not on the golf course or working, he’s spending time with his beautiful wife Lauren and daughter Riley.
Matt knows too well the struggles of having to work full time to pay for his education while in school, which is why Matt enjoys volunteering for a cause that helps youth alleviate the financial burden of college. “Many times some of the hardest challenges for me came from being able to balance work and school. The stress of needing to work so I could pay for rent, utility bills, and groceries and finding time to attend classes and study, was not easy; especially at eighteen years old.” Matt’s determination to break the cycle and change the path of his family is something to be admired. At a young age, when giving up may have seemed like the easiest solution, Matt pushed ahead to become a graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Lowell with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Business, the first in his family to hold a college degree. Most importantly, Matt has become a role model for his daughter Riley and for students familiar with the struggles of having to work full time and wanting to pursue higher education.
“Take advantage of all the resources available on campus. Get involved. Speak to your guidance counselors. Ask for help. People are willing to help and guide you. All you need to do is ask.”
~ Matt Brousseau
