From the Principal...

I truly enjoyed my first Catholic Schools Week. From the Eucharistic Adoration at St. Gabriels on Monday, to
Take A Look Tuesday, to the reception of accepted families along with well-spirited athletic and academic games between students and staff on Wednesday, to a wonderful staff appreciation luncheon on Thursday, to our First Friday Mass with the middle school. What a week! Thank you again for your fantastic participation during all events.

March For Life ...
On January 26th, the Crusaders for Life Club left early in the morning to travel to Washington D.C. to participate in the March for Life. When we got to D.C., we toured the capitol, where we saw memorials, museums, and monuments. After a day of touring, we set up camp at Resurrection of Our Lord Church on Maryland.  We attended Adoration and Benediction services that evening and spent the night in the Church hall. It wa
s a night filled with faith and community.

Getting up early the next day was tough but we all were excited to march to end abortion. We attended a Youth Rally and Mass for Life at the Verizon Center. The Youth Rally consisted of several musicians playing and a Mass following it. After, we walked to the Washington Monument and prepared to march. At the starting line, we listened to several speakers, such as the President of March for Life and Vice President Mike Pence.

After the speeches, we began to march. Even though our group was only twenty-five students and seven adults, we marched along with hundred o f thousands of others who hold the same belief. This was a life cha nging experience. As one member of Crusaders for Life expresse d, "It was really great to march for such a good cause. It was even better that we were all with our friends. It made me more aware of how many people are willing to rise up to make a difference." It was great to be the voice for those who do not have a voice.

Chinese New Year Celebration...

The international students who are with The Ivy Agency had a Chinese New Year celebration at Trinity Catholic High School. The agency gave the students a luncheon of traditional Chinese New Year food. Because the students are so far away from home and can't celebrate with their families in China, they really enjoyed celebrating the new year with their agency and friends. This year is the year of the rooster.

JUNIORS

SAT/ACT Prep Courses : TCHS will be offering both an SAT and ACT prep course run by MEC (Math & English Consultants) Test Prep.
The ACT course will prepare students for the April 8, 2016 test and the SAT course will prepare students for the May 6, 2016 test.  There will be SAT classes offered on Wednesday afternoons at either 3 pm or 6 pm.  ACT classes will run after school on Mondays at 6 pm.   We will need at least 5 students to run each class with a maximum of 20 students.
If you're not sure which course to choose, students can take "Test Drives" that are full practice SAT and ACT tests on two Saturdays: Feb. 4 (SAT) and Feb. 11 (ACT).  Students then receive a detailed feedback report on each practice exam they take to help them decide which exam they should prepare for.  If a student signs up for a course, the money paid for the Test Drive for that course will be deducted from the cost of the course.  Students can wait until they get their feedback to register for the course.
Students must register 3 days before the "Test Drives" to be guaranteed a seat. The deadline to register is February 1 for the SAT Test Drive and February 8 for the ACT Test Drive.  For more information or questions, please contact Mrs. Crane or Ms. Matthews in Guidance.

ALL STUDENTS
**Any student who is interested in playing a sport at the college level should register on the NCAA Eligibility website.  For more information, please see Mrs. Crane in Guidance.

From the Nurses Office...

It's that time if year again when many of us are feeling under the weather. It is important to remind our students to dress appropriately by wearing warm coats, gloves, scarves and boots to school. They can change into uniform shoes when they get here. They should also have a school sweater or fleece to wear. Warmth trumps beauty!

It is also important to remember to wash our hands often, drink plenty of fluids and get extra sleep. If you develop a cough or sneeze cover your mouth using your inner elbow rather than your hand. If you use your hand, you will spread your germs to the next object you touch, like the doorknob or desk. Those germs will be passed on to the next person touching that doorknob or desk and we will have lots of coughs and sneezes in school.

If your child has a fever of 101 for more than 24 hours please keep them home and call your doctor. They must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. They must return to school with a doctor's note after an illness in order to have the absence excused, as well as to let us what the illness was.  If you child is sick please don't send them to school. They won't be feeling well enough to learn, they will make others sick and they need the rest to get better.

Lets hope this winter is a healthy one by following these tips. As always feel free to call the nurses office with any concerns about your child. We are here to help.
