E-Update
February 14, 2017

Hosanna Lutheran Church
Forest Lake, Minnesota
We are called, gathered and sent to be a people living, loving
and serving as Jesus did so that all may know Him.

From Pastor Linda
A Matter of the HEART!

Jesus words from the Sermon on the Mount:
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also...  You cannot serve God and wealth.  (Matthew 6)

Dear Friends~

An invitation!  Hosanna has once again been challenged to have their dollars matched up to $5000 for the Lakes Area FMSC MobilePack by Sunday, February 26.  If (WHEN!) Hosanna raises $10,000 by February 26 there will be an additional $2500 donated- $1250 to the Lakes Area FMSC MobilePack and $1250 to the Capital Projects Account (CPA).

This is all about living out a KINGDOM CULTURE; a fully human life that is lived out under divine rule.  Jesus is clear about this:  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also...  You cannot serve God and wealth.  This is an opportunity for you to GIVE when you had not planned to GIVE; to stretch your giving-and by stretching also having your money matched.  It makes sense and cents!  Together we can capture this gift... are you in?

How to donate:
Donations MUST be delivered on or before Sunday, February 26:
  • Drop off or mail a donation to Hosanna- make certain that it is clearly marked for "FMSC Challenge".
  • Donate through Hosanna's website (under Ministries- FMSC-"Additional donations")- click here:

Consider sharing this with family and friends- to join you in living out a KINGDOM CULTURE!

Save the Dates to volunteer for the Lakes Area MobilePack:  April 20-22, 2017!

Together, yes we can!!  ~Pastor Linda

Connect360 Adult Education

An Opportunity for Learning and Conversation-
Who is My Neighbor: Talking about Race and Racial Equity
(a study from Lutheran Social Services)
When:  Wednesday's January 25, February 1, 8, 15
Time: 6:30pm during connect360 education time
Topics:  Setting the Stage- God Made Us Different on Purpose, We are more alike than different: What is Race and Racism- a working definition, Do I have Privilege?, Listening and Telling Stories.

This series will include guest speakers and opportunity for conversation.  We will follow the 5 Habits of the Heart to guide our discussions.

1.  An understanding that we are all in this together.  Biologists, ecologists, economists, ethicists and leaders of the great wisdom traditions have all given voice to this theme. Despite our illusions of individualism and national superiority, we humans are a profoundly interconnected species.
2. An appreciation of the value of "otherness." It is true that we are all in this together. It is equally true that we spend most of our lives in "tribes" or lifestyle clans-and that thinking of the world in terms of "us" and "them" is one of the many limitations of the human mind. The good news is that "us and them" does not have to mean "us versus them."
3. An ability to hold tension in life-giving ways. Our lives are filled with inner and outer contradictions.  We are flawed and finite beings whose understanding is always partial and in need of correction.
4. A sense of personal voice and agency. Insight and energy give rise to new life as we speak out and act out our own version of truth, while checking and correcting it against the truths of others.
5. A capacity to create community.

Apostle's Creed Mini-Milestone

This is one of our opportunities to explore one way we live out our faith. This workshop is geared to help our 4-6 grade kids as they are moving away from being soley concrete thinkers and are beginning to understand more complicated concepts -like God being three-in-one. They are invited, along with their parents to learn more about God as Father, Son and the Holy Spirit through games, conversations and hands-on activities. This is an interactive workshop that kids and their families won't want to miss. The Milestone Worskshop takes place after the 10:30am service on Sunday, February 19th and includes lunch. Contact Pastor Jen at
[email protected] with any questions you may have.
New Book Club Book:
The Latehomecomer by Kao Kalia Yang

In search of a place to call home, thousands of Hmong families made the journey from the war-torn jungles of Laos to the overcrowded refugee camps in Thailand, then onward to America. The Hmong became a people without a home to call their own. Yang's book chronicles the struggle of the Hmong to find a new place to settle and to forge and identity for themselves. It is Yang's tribute to her grandmother, the remarkable woman whose spirit held them all together. It is also an eloquent, first-hand account of a people who have worked hard to make their voices heard.
Discussion date will be March 6 at 7pm. Pastor Linda will be the facilitator. Please contact her at [email protected] with any questions.
