Faculty and staff volunteers needed for Casino Night
 Kansas State Polytechnic's programming board needs your help keeping another campus tradition going.
Casino Night, held
March 8 from 6 to 10 p.m., needs faculty and staff volunteers to act as game dealers. No experience is necessary because rule sheets
will be emailed out to volunteers
before the event and training will be offered an hour prior to the festivities.
Volunteers will be needed from 5 to 10 p.m. in the College Center conference room. Contact the programming board or Cody Waterman, residence life coordinator, by Feb. 27 to sign up.
Casino Night offers students a fun night away from studying through games, snacks, prizes and camaraderie. The various games featured will be blackjack, craps, bingo, Texas Hold'Em, and roulette tables. All volunteers will receive a free T-shirt for donating their time.

Multiple campus events planned for National TRiO Month
February is National TRiO Month, and K-State Polytechnic is celebrating! The Federal TRiO Programs are federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Student Support Services and Upward Bound are celebrating National TRiO Month by partnering with Saint Francis Community Services, a non-profit, faith based organization that is dedicated to serving children and families.
Boxes have been set around campus to collect donations such as gift cards (College Center 208), notebooks, pens/pencils, hygiene products, clothes, diapers, clothing for infants and toddlers, unopened toys, stuffed animals, socks, mittens, stocking hats, flip flops, etc.
Boxes can be found in the lobbies of the Aviation Center, Technology Center, College Center, Student Life Center and Welcome Center. Thanks for helping families in need!

New champion crowned at annual Chili Cook-off
And the winner is...
Kansas State Polytechnic has crowned its newest chili champion and it is the marketing and communications office that earned the coveted title.
The annual Chili Cook-off, now in its eighth year, was held on Feb. 10 with 11 recipes entered, from seafood chili to a bacon and brown sugar version to a tofu concoction. Dozens of faculty, staff and students made the rounds tasting each chili and then casted a vote for each category: mild, medium and spicy, name and overall winner.
Two of this year's highlights came when local newspaper the Salina Journal covered the event, and with the attendance of Bob Homolka, who spent more than 40 years at the campus as faculty before retiring in 2014.

Jackson, Stephens bring K-State ICDD to Wakefield
Kansas State Polytechnic professors Mark Jackson and Greg Stephens are helping to spread purple pride in north central Kansas. The two traveled to Wakefield on Feb. 8 to facilitate a community discussion for the Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy, or ICDD, at K-State.
The evening's forum focused on "Milford Reservoir Health," which included
subjects like recreation, drinking water, irrigation, navigation, flood control, wildlife, industry, energy, algae, silting, watershed, and agriculture. The town of Wakefield sits adjacent to Milford Lake.
The event saw nearly 100 people in attendance participating in the public deliberation.

A high-five is one of the most recognizable ways two people can share excitement or celebrate a job well done. Kansas State Polytechnic's CEO and Dean Verna Fitzsimmons awards her high-five each week to honor faculty, staff and students for their dedication to the university.

I would like to send a big high-five to Student Support Services for hosting another successful Chili Cook-off. This event has been a Polytechnic Campus tradition for eight years, and it is a wonderful way to bring faculty, staff and students together. I appreciate the hard work that went into planning the festivities as well as the time and effort the participants put into their recipes. Let's continue to look for fun ways the campus can come together.

Ever think of studying abroad but don't think you can afford it? Check into the Gilman scholarship. K-State Polytechnic has had students study abroad with the assistance of this scholarship. The deadline is March 7 for Summer or Fall programs abroad, and October 2 for Spring programs abroad.
