Are FH Patients Getting the Care
They Need?

Families impacted by FH face many barriers to diagnosis and care. We hear every day from patients and their healthcare providers about the challenges patients face when trying to get their prescribed FH treatments approved by insurance and about the affordability of those treatments. We wanted to learn from more of you so that we could continue to advocate on your behalf to improve access across the entire spectrum of FH treatments.

Figure A

Guidelines for FH management recommend a cholesterol value below 100 mg/dL for those without heart disease and below 70 mg/dL for those with heart disease. Unfortunately, cholesterol levels remain dangerously high for man y with FH  (See Figure A).

Figure B

Out of 163 respondents, 26% has a cholesterol-lowering medication denied; 79% of them were denied PCSK9-inhibitors, with 38% of them having established heart disea se  (See Figure B).

The FH Foundation is working side-by-side with patients, healthcare providers, and payers to address gaps in diagnosis and issues in access to medications.
