COMINGS AND GOINGS
Things at Daphneyland are in a continual state of flux.  Hounds come in on a weekly basis, hounds are adopted on a weekly basis and sadly, hounds also leave for the Bridge.  It is hard to keep track of if you are not living the experiences on a daily basis and if you are living it on a daily basis it is hard on the heart.  The new hounds come in so sad, confused, sick and heartbroken. The adopted hounds leave with excitement but the care-takers often have combined tears of joy and sorrow watching them leave.  And then of course, there are always tears when a hound leaves us for the Bridge, even though we know they left knowing love, knowing security and gentle hands.  So, we thought that all of our supporters need to be brought up to speed on comings and goings of the current hounds.
Welcome to our new hounds in 2017!
SAVANNAH

Welcome 6 year old Savannah to the Daphneyland family. She was taken by her owner to a vet for euthanasia. Thank you to All Creatures Animal Hospital for refusing to euthanize and reaching out to save her life.
FUGI

Stray old guy found wandering in the storm was bailed yesterday from Apple Valley Animal Shelter. Originally given the name Henri we have renamed him Fugi. Welcome #2 Fugi!

WILLY

Willy came back to Daphneyland today and is our third intake of the New year. Sadly, this 10 year old senior's adoptive family had some changes to their lifestyle and could not give him all the attention he deserved. Welcome back Willy!!

NATHAN

Our 4th intake was an emergency parvo pup case that Linda Miller was able to transport to Dr. Ban. This is Nathan (named after Dr. Ban).. am 8 week old puppywith suspected parvo. Tonight he is not doing too well. He is just one of the dogs we are currently helping.

SKYBEAR

SkyBear a 6 year old bloodhound that was in No. Central shelter. Intervention helped this beauty find us a s he has some issues. Food aggression, hates crates and resource guards on a leash to start. Rehab begins for our handsome hunk.

PRINCESS LEIA

Please welcome 12 week old Princess Leia to Daphneyland. Due to financial crisis .... she is now with us... sad story. You will be loved and cared for like a Princess, baby girl!

BRIAN

Please welcome our new guy, Brian, from Bakersfield. Many thanks to Kim Kuwahara, Board member for picking him up and arranging for removal of two ulcerated tumors while he was in Bakersfield waiting out the snow storm.
DUNCAN

Please welcome Duncan. 4-5 year old male, stray and facing the end at Tulare Shelter. Thank you Golden Empire Basset Rescue for pulling him! Nancy carpenter drove many hours to get him and Tyler Harris met up in Buttonwillow and brought him in. In need of detox, shots, neuter, deworming etc. We bet this boy finds a home fast!

KING GEORGE

Please welcome King George arriving from Bakersfield. He was brought in as a stray and deemed unadoptable because he has a tumor on his penis, broken teeth, BAD breath. We picked him and will see if we can get the tumor and issues resolved and find him a forever home.
ELMER

And here is #10. Elmer was an owner-surrender today at North Central. During his medical exam, he said "grrrr" and he was given a medical humane alert. They held him to the end of the day and we were able to free him within 3 hours. Thanks for Lana and Linda for saving Elmer!

TAMMY

In December of 2005 many may recall the puppymill situation and the intake of 20+ bassets from that situation out in Little Rock CA. We were forced to return 11 intact bassets to that horrific situation. Those faces have given me nightmares for years. I have NEVER stopped in my attempts to save those 11.... no, 12 years to be exact.
Earlier this week a networking rescue reached out as an owner had died and this rescuer had taken in all of her dogs. 2 bassets were in the mix. You got it. Same woman.

MYSTIC

I was shocked and sickened to learn several dogs had died of starvation in that nightmare of a situation. Those babies I will forever have on my heart. Today we were able to intake these two. The tri is named Tammy and she has a possible home after she gets out of heat and gets spay, dental and some training. This lovely red and white girl, many giant growths on her, bad teeth etc.. her name is Mystic. Yes she's an old girl. One of the hounds we were forced to give back. 12 years of the worst life you can imagine. Medical needs are several thousand for sure... yet Mystic is the last hound left from all those years ago, and this girl's tail has not stopped wagging.

For the month of February ONLY, we also have a Share the Love with the Hounds Giving Grid to help raise funds for vet care for our recent intakes.  This special fundraiser has the added bonus that for every $10 you donate on the Giving Grid, you will receive one opportunity ticket for a 4 day get-away at a condo in Las Vegas.  If you would like to donate to this fundraiser, just click on the link below.

If you would like to donate to help with vet bills or dog food, you can also donate through PayPal or by sending a check directly to our vet or food supplier.  Please email [email protected] for the addresses.
We also have a wish list of supplements and other supplies on Amazon.com under the name Basset Rescue Network, Inc at Daphneyland.  Gift cards are a great way to donate also.  We can use gift cards to Costco, gas cards, Walmart, or Visa/Master Card Gift cards.
