Rabbi's D'var for Shabbat Sh'mot Inauguration Day, January 20, 2017
From Rabbi Bearman:
Sometimes when I sit down to write, the sermon pours out of me. I type as quickly as I can because it feels like the words have been circling in my mind - only waiting for me to touch a keyboard to start crystallizing into a coherent message.
Other times, it takes hours for me to find my way into a sermon. In these instances, it is only after I read and research and even make a few false starts that something clicks and the doorway into the topic is finally revealed.
I have been thinking about and preparing for this sermon for at least a month. My work began the moment I realized that the inauguration would take place on a Friday and that- hours after that ceremony- I would need to stand on our bimah and offer some insight into this next chapter of our country's life.

TBC Strategic Survey Coming Your Way!
From TBC President, Cindy Baulsir - After 40 years, we continue to evolve as a congregation. We're at a place where we want to think differently/creatively about the future while ensuring the needs of our congregation continue to be met. To ensure that we grow in a way that continues to meet our needs we have started a consultant-led strategic planning process. A critical component of this process is to solicit feedback from the congregation.
In the coming days you will receive an email with access to our survey. Each and every question within the survey is important and addresses different aspects of TBC. Please fill it out as soon as your receive it so that your voice will be heard.
If at any time, you'd like to talk with someone in more depth, we welcome the opportunity. Please contact me,
Cindy Baulsir, or the Strategic Planning Lead,
Dina Gumins.

Save the Date: Friday February 17 For Our Mishkan T'filah Dedication!
Join us as we dedicate our new copies of
Mishkan T'filah, Friday, February 17, 7:30 pm!
All are invited to attend an especially joyous Shabbat service and festive oneg. During this special service, we will be dedicating one hundred new copies of our prayer book,
Mishkan T'filah. These siddurs were made possible through donations to the
Michael A. Heft Memorial Fund. Michael was a lifelong learner and regularly enjoyed Shabbat services and Saturday morning Torah study with his TBC friends. It is fitting that we honor his memory with these beautiful books. We wish on this night to fill the sanctuary so full that we will need to share prayer books!!
Bonnie, Ethan and Sarah Heft are sponsoring the festive oneg in memory of Michael Heft.

Tu BiSh'vat celebration at Sharon Sobel's house - 8 Old Farm Road Wilton. (Raindate Monday, February 13.) You do not want to miss this celebration!! This is the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the Land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle. We will drink the fruit of the vine and nourish our bodies with fruits and nuts symbolizing strength, creation, rebirth, and our spiritual and emotional ties with the Earth. A light vegetarian supper will be served. $18 per Sisterhood Member and $20 for non-members. We will combine this with the area Hadassah group, and promise it to be a fun event! Shabbat Shirah February 10th - Calling All Musicians!
Come offer musical praise as did our ancestors in worship after the miraculous parting of the sea. If you are a singer or musician and would like to perform a song of thanksgiving or praise - alone or with a group - please email
cantor@templebnaichaim.org. The exact musical shape of the evening will be a reflection of the musical talents and passions of our congregants. We will also hear the special musical chant for the Song at the Sea. Join us for what promises to be a very special Shabbat of song and celebration.
Meryll and Michael Wolfman will be sponsoring the flowers and oneg in honor of past president Michael Wolfman's birthday!

Calling All Torah Chanters!!
We will be chanting Torah on the following dates: March 24, April 21, and May 12. The readers or chanters will be given ample time to learn the verses. Don't worry, it won't be as long as your Bar or Bat Mitzvah! If it was your parsha, and you want to do it again, this is a great chance for you. If you have never read from the Torah and have always wanted to, please recognize that this is your chance to do so with your community. Please contact Russ Robbins, Chair of the Ritual Committee at ritual@templebnaichaim.org.
