Athletics:
Girls Water Polo:
Water Polo had some of their best matches of the season this week conclude the year. On Monday, PV took league-champion Redondo all the way to OT before losing 10-9. Perhaps, the highlight of the season came on Wednesday when the Sea Kings came from behind to beat Peninsula 7-6. The team concluded the season with a win over Torrance on Thursday.

For the season, the team finished 4th in the league and enjoyed some excitingly close games! Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families on a great '16-'17 season!

Boys Basketball:
Boys basketball traveled to Morningside on Tuesday and took on the Monarchs. The team had a tough time shooting and ended up losing the road contest.

The team made up for it, and then some, on Thursday at home in front of a capacity crowd against rival Peninsula. PV built an early lead and that lead grew throughout the game. In the end, PV came away with a 54-35 victory, it's first over Peninsula since the '13-'14 season.

The team finished 4th in the Bay League and won two tournaments. The team is eligible for the playoffs and will find out if they earned an at-large spot shortly!

Girls Basketball:
What a week for girls basketball! 2 wins, beat your rival, and advance to the playoffs!

PV beat Morningside on the road on Tuesday before taking on Peninsula at home on Thursday. The energy in the gym was palpable and the girls handled their crosstown rivals from start to finish. In the end it was a 53-35 win for the Sea Kings!

The girls team finishes 3rd in the Bay League and will soon find out their 1st round playoff game for this week!

Girls Soccer:
Girls soccer cemented their 3rd consecutive Bay League championship and capped off an undefeated season in league play.

On Tuesday, the girls recorded a wild 5-4 victory over Redondo Union before defeating Peninsula 3-0 on Thursday. Overall, the team was 9-0-1 in the league and will find out their playoff seeding on Monday!

Boys Soccer:
Boys Soccer wrapped up a successful league campaign this week. On Tuesday, PV defeated eventual league champion Redondo by a score of 4-2, avenging a loss from earlier in the season. On Thursday, PV battled Peninsula on a foggy and slick field. Peninsula got the only goal of the game and ended up winning 1-0.

PV finished the regular season tied for 2nd place with Mira Costa and will find out on Monday what their first round playoff game will be.

Surf:
PV Surf Team Update 2/10/17

The PV Surf Team finally got back in the ocean to compete in-between the rain storms this week. Unfortunately, they came up short and lost to Redondo Union. PV High had strong representation in men's shortboard however, with Briggs Peus and Rodney Buck coming in first place in their respective heats. Emma Anderson proved to be a tough competitor and powered past her competition taking first place in women's longboarding.

Students:

CA Amateur State Ice Hockey Championships

During this past weekend, February 3-5, your fellow Sea Kings, Freshman Luc Charbonnier and Sophomore Ian Uyeda won the California Amateur State Ice Hockey Championships in the 15U AAA Tier I Division at Lakewood, California as members of the Los Angeles Junior Kings hockey club.  Luc had been out with an injury for much of the season, but came back to help lead the team to finishing first in their Division.  Goalie Ian Uyeda finished 2nd in the state among goalies, and this weekend was the winning goalie in a 2-1 triple sudden death ovetime win that propelled them into the Championship game!  The team will now move on the the Pacific District Championships in early March in Las Vegas, Nevada after being invited to a very prestigious Canadian Tournament in  Victoria, British Columbia later this month.  Please congratulations your fellow Sea Kings Luc and Ian!
