OBN and SynbiCITE Event Collaboration
OBN are delighted to be collaborating with SynbiCITE on two events over the next month; the first is a Senior Executive Club breakfast meeting in London on Tuesday 21 February and the second is a BioTuesday at the Mathematical Institute in Oxford on Tuesday 7 March.

Both events will address the topic of 'Engineering Biology for a Better World' with key note speakers discussing current applications of concepts and methods of biology being used to solve real-world problems relating to life sciences, including an overview of opportunities, threats and some fascinating case studies.

OBN Member's Event: Neuro-Bio Showcase -  Discover a new approach to Neurodegeneration at their labs in Culham Science Centre on 30 March
* Explore the possibility of collaborative projects
* Discuss opportunities of industrial experience for early stage researchers.
* Challenge existing theories and approaches to neurodegeneration

Neuro-Bio ( www.neuro-bio.com) is a privately held company taking a new approach to neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease .   Building on 40 years of original research initially at Oxford University, and now based at the Culham Science Centre, we research a novel signaling molecule (a peptide 'T14') significantly elevated in Alzheimer's brains and driving the cycle of brain cell death in selectively vulnerable cells.

REGISTRATION: We would be grateful if you could indicate your interest by February 20th.

Seeking biopharma companies to begin a conversation about research into ME/CFS
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a disabling, chronic disease that causes symptoms affecting many body systems, most commonly the nervous and immune systems.

To date there has not been sufficient coordinated research done to understand the biological mechanisms associated with the disease and therefore, drive the discovery of specific therapeutics.   This is beginning to change with strong collaborations developing such as the  UK CFS/ME Research Collaborative (CMRC), which aims to promote the highest quality of basic and applied evidenced-based and peer-reviewed research in to ME/CFS

A major initial undertaking of the CMRC is the ME/CFS Epidemiology and Genomics Alliance (MEGA) project,  a national UK "pan-omics" study of more than 12,000 ME sufferers, that will focus on phenotyping and subtyping, with the aim to identify the biological pathways that are associated with the disease.

The CMRC is seeking to build relationships with biopharmaceutical companies who have research interests in fatigue, neuro-inflammation, immune-inflammation, migraine or neuropathic pain, and who might see ME/CFS as a future pipeline possibility.

If you are interested in this initiative, please contact Dr Mark Edwards (CMRC Board Member) directly via [email protected] or by mobile 07887 831942.

University of Oxford to Host Two AIMDays on Ageing and Microscopy
The AIMday concept has been successfully pioneered by the University of Uppsala, Sweden and used in a wide variety of contexts. The University of Oxford will be hosting two AIMdays, the first on 03 July will focus on Ageing, the second on 17 July will look at Microscopy. It is a no-cost opportunity for companies and organisations to exchange knowledge and ideas with Oxford University academics and clinical researchers.

AIMdays provide a platform for external organisations to make connections with academia that they may have, in the past, struggled to achieve. In particular, this event will provide an opportunity to access the wide range of excellent research being conducted at the University of Oxford with the aim of bridging the knowledge gap between research and industry.

Companies and organisations interested in attending must submit at least one question. This is done using the AIMdays event portal before 31st March 2017. More information on posing questions and example questions can be found together with information on the Ageing AIMday here and the Microscopy AIMday information is here.
