Changes for Activity Centres within the Development Plan

The Minister approved stage one of the Activity Centre Development Plan Amendment in April 2016 to make it easier to change the use of a space.  In summary, it has the following impact on businesses:
  • A change in use of a tenancy between a shop, office or consulting room will now be treated as a complying use (subject to certain conditions) meaning that the process is a lot simpler and quicker! (previously required a full assessment)
  • New, less onerous car parking requirements (potentially lower car parking rates) are required if the centre is located in close proximity to high frequency public transport.
  • Procedure for shops of a greater floor area (>450m²) within a Local Centre has been made easier (no longer non-complying)
  • Bulky Goods stores are no longer non-complying in the Suburban Activity Node Zone but are capped at around 500m², and
  • A number of changes have been made to policy within the Regional Centre Zone to allow shops to be located throughout the zone rather than in targeted areas.
Development applications from business will be prioritised from 2017 to stimulate business activation.  For further information, please contact Steve Hooper, Manager - Development and Regulatory Services on telephone 8375 6600 .
