* SURPRISE PERFORMANCE TONIGHT

* INVASION AT HHII DANCE FESTIVAL

*IN RESIDENCE AT SCHOOLS

Surprise Performance Tonight- 2/18/16 @ 7 pm
We are doing a new event downtown called Open Performers Night. It is tied into studio 55 in NY, and the first one here in LA. The location is: MAKER CITY / CULTURE BRAIN ACADEMY, 1933 S. Broadway - 11th floor, LA  90007. Maker City LA is located in the REEF building in downtown Los Angeles. Here is the rsvp for the free event

We are performing "Call From the Afterlife" (under a different name) part of a longer work conceived by Linda J. Albertano, the performance artist,  presented last May at Beyond Baroque. I was commissioned to create the choreography on my company. A poet, on reaching his 71'st birthday, is visited by 4 apparitions who urge him to come with her to the afterlife (and die). The 3 excerpts presented tonight are as follows: The first is a Clown/Ballerina who tries to charm him, the next in this performance is the Devil as a Spanish dancer, and the third is Marilyn Monroe who tries to seduce him. And we do it on a stage only 19 x 9 feet.

Above are new videos of "Invasion" from recent festivals in New York and LA. The one on the left from the NY performance is against the New York skyline that the amazing venue features. The one on the right is from Los Angeles and also features the digital animation of Audri Phillips. I would love to hear your reaction about the dance seen in both of them. It has a very different look.
We are back in a real theater Sunday in Santa Barbara- the last performance of my work "Invasion" in a series of festivals, this one in Santa Barbara. This piece is sci-fi, and has to do with what happens when we are invaded by another species (or metaphorically, what happens when very diverse qualities from diverse cultures come together). Who changes who? What is the result?

2/21/16- 2:00 pm. HHII Festival, Center Stage Theatre, Santa Barbara

It has a curated group of dance companies, some with performances on additional days. The link has the full schedule. Choreographer Reichlin is also a finalist for the festival's new Apogee award in the Creator category.

Residencies in Schools-  We still have an opening for 1 grant matching school
We are delighted to be working with three school districts this month. In partnership with the Angels Gate Cultural Center we are again at NASA, this time with 3 1st grades that are learning parts from "The Patchwork Girl of Oz" we will be performing in March. Through a matching grant from LA County Supervisor Don Knabe's Arts Education Partnership we just completed our third educational residency at Fairgrove Academy  (La Puente Hacienda Heights) with 5 of their middle school classes. We worked with them 4 weeks and they performed 5 'world' dances which this year came from Africa, Mexico, Ireland, Italy, and the USA. Our company performed Invasion and Call From the Afterlife on their program on February 11.  We have just begun a residency at Braddock El in Culver City. Two of their 2nd grades are working with Reichlin and our teaching artists on material they will perform with us next month- this through the new LAUSD Arts Partnership Program. And we have an opening with a grant from DCA LA for a school with some matching funds in one of the following LA City Council Districts: 2,3,6,7, 20, or 12. This is in the west Valley or moving into the central area.
