February 2017
Candidate Forums
During February and March, we will be sponsoring five candidate forums for the contested municipal races in Oak Park and River Forest and one presentation on the Oak Park School District 97 proposed referendums. These are important events for our community and our members.  We still need a few volunteers for each forum to work as timers and question gatherers, in addition to setting up for the evening.  You don't have to be on the Voter Service Committee to help at these forums.  Check the League calendar and contact Peggy Kell if you can help on one of the scheduled dates.  This is a great way to become involved with your League.
Second Tuesday
On Tuesday, February 14, Beth Isaacs, founder of  Illinois Birth Justice, will be the presenter for Second Tuesday. Come to the Nineteenth Century Club, 178 Forest Ave., Oak Park, from 9:30-11:00am to learn more about this important issue. Bring a friend along to join you.
Drinks & Dialogue
This month, our Drinks & Dialogue program will be hearing from Oak Park Township Program Coordinator Vicki Scaman on a study of underage drinking in our communities.  Join us on Thursday, February 16, from 5:30-7:00pm, at Skrine Chops House, 7230 W. Madison, Forest Park.  Anyone with teens in the house will benefit from this discussion.

State of the Villages Update
Invites to our biennial March 11, State of the Villages fundraiser will be coming to you in about a week. Remember that this event helps us fund our operating budget for two years.  The committee has put together a luncheon that will be informative and entertaining. Please make every effort to attend.  If you can't, why not buy a ticket and give it to a prospective member!
Cook County
The LWV Cook County Annual Meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 8 and the luncheon speaker will be Cook County Commissioner Bridget Gainer.  Mark your calendars now with this date.  Read the report of what our sister League has accomplished this year.
