Dear Parents,

We are very busy at Lovejoy Elementary! I hope that all of our first grade parents will be able to join us tonight for their program, All Around the Music room. Our first graders have been working hard to showcase their learning, and you are definitely in for a treat.  On Friday, we will also celebrate the character of our students at Leopard Live.  This is always one of my favorite days because I love to showcase our students.  It is definitely a great time to be a part of Lovejoy Elementary.  I hope that you have a happy and safe three day weekend.

NEW! Draper James Event:  February 28
Draper James is holding a special event to benefit the Foundation on Tuesday, February 28th, from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM. They will give 20% back from the proceeds during the event. They will be providing sweet treats while you shop. Draper James is Reece Witherspoon's new store located in Highland Park Village.
     Taste of Fairview

The 2nd Annual Taste of Fairview:  March 3rd
Back by popular demand, the 2nd Annual Taste of Fairview will be held on March 3rd.  The event is presented by  Estate Life Magazine , in partnership with the Allen/Fairview Chamber of Commerce, Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club, and the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools.  Details are as follows:

2017 Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction
Your Support is appreciated  
Through your generosity and support, The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools (FLS) issued grants totaling $435,000 to Lovejoy teachers for use in their classrooms this year. The Foundation is funded primarily from the Annual Appeal Campaign and the Denim and Diamonds (D&D) Gala and Auction. The Foundation's goal is to cover D&D costs with sponsorships prior to the night of the event, allowing all dollars spent at the event to go directly to fund classroom grants.
 
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host the 11th annual Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at a new location; the Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano. The theme is a Southern Soirée - Celebrating 100 Years of Lovejoy ISD. Denim and Diamonds Chair, Andrea Paranteau and Co-Chair, Carrie McClure welcome you to a night featuring dinner, entertainment, and live auctions.
 
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host a raffle entitled "Fab Five", which includes:
 
  • 7 nights in Sydney, Australia, donated by Cleve Adamson Custom Homes
  • $2500 VISA gift card, donated by Owens Realtors
  • Texas Limo Wine Tour and Getaway
  • Goyard, St. Louis PM Large Tote in Black
  • Large Kamado-Style Grill in Red by Grill Dome, donated by The Firehouse in Allen
 
Raffle tickets are $100. Only 500 tickets will be sold. A drawing will be held for each item, giving each ticket a chance to win one of these prizes. The winners will be drawn at the Denim and Diamonds Gala. You do not need to be present to win. Online Auction:  February 28 - March 7
The Denim and Diamonds Online Auction will open on February 28th. Click here to view the auction flyer. This is an exciting opportunity to win great items for your students. The Lovejoy staff donated various unique and special experiences for the children. Also available are the fabulous Class Masterpieces created by students in grades K-5. Bad Weather Day - Monday, February 20th
Just a reminder that we do NOT have school on Monday, February 20th.  This is allocated for a bad weather day, but because we have not experienced any bad weather this school year, Lovejoy Elementary will be closed.  Click here to view the district calendar.

1st Grade Program
Please join us on Thursday, February 16, 2017 for the 1st Grade Music Program.  Students will present  All Around the Music room,  featuring music and activities from our 1st grade curriculum.  Our performance will begin at 6:30pm.  Students will report to the music room at 6:15pm.  Dress is 1st grade t-shirt and dark jeans.

Chick-fil-A Spirit Night 
Show your Lovejoy Spirit, all day and night, by eating at Chick-Fil-A on Thursday, February 16th.  You must mention "Lovejoy" PRIOR TO PLACING THE ORDER and 20% of the order will be donated to the school.
 
TOMORROW! Leopard Live 
We will be celebrating our awesome character at Leopard Live at 2:00pm on Friday, February 17th.  We hope you will join us for this wonderful event.

Due to LISD Holiday next week, there will be NO Chess Club on Wednesday, February 22nd.

NEW! Lovejoy Elementary Choir
LES Choir invites you to watch their performance of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at the Frisco College Baseball Classic on March 4th.  They will be performing during the 7th inning of Oklahoma State VS Arizona game with a start time of 4:00pm.  The proceeds of each ticket sold will go directly back to Lovejoy Elementary.  We hope you can join us!  To buy tickets visit:  www.friscoclassic.com. 

NEW! Open House
Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 9th as it's our annual open house at 6:00 - 7:15.  Also, we will be having our 3rd grade program beginning at 6:30 in the Lovejoy gym.   We hope you'll all be able to join us! 

NEW! LES PTA Scholarship Application
Each year the Lovejoy Elementary PTA provides a $500 scholarship for a college bound Lovejoy Senior.  The student must have attended LHS for their sophomore, junior, and senior years to be eligible.  Please pass along the information about the scholarship to anyone who might be interested.  Interested students should contact Tina Walenciak at [email protected].
 
Six Flags Read to Succeed
Want to earn a FREE ticket to Six Flags? You can do it simply by reading good books for 360 minutes! Simply fill out this reading log and return it to the Lovejoy Library by Friday, February 24th. Gifted and Talented Referrals
Referrals for Gifted and Talented Services are now online in the PowerSchool Parent Portal . After logging in, please select the appropriate student from the blue bar at the top (under the PowerSchool heading). Select Gifted and Talented Referral from the Navigation pane on the left. Complete the referral form and submit. A detailed help sheet is available on the Lovejoy ISD Gifted and Talented web page.
 
The deadline for completing a referral for grades 1-4 is April 1, 2016. Testing will be conducted in April. Students may test once in a 12 month period.

NEW! Lovejoy Orchestra Spirit Night

LHS Choir Chipotle Spirit Night:  March 28th
The LHS Choir will host a Chipotle Spirit Night on Tuesday, March 28th from 5:30 - 8:30 PM at the Chipotle located at 103 Central Expressway in Allen. 50% of the profits will go to supporting LHS Choir, so bring a friend , this flyer (printed or on your phone), and your appetite in support our Singing Leopards.

Lovejoy Soccer Future Leopard Nights: February 24th and February 28th
The Men's Leopard Soccer team will host Future Leopard Night Friday, February 24th, when they take on Forney High School with a 5:30 PM kick off for JV and a 7:15 PM kick off for Varsity.
 
The Lady Leopard Soccer team will host Future Leopard Night on Tuesday, February 28th during their game against Wylie East with a 5:30 PM kick off for JV and a 7:15 PM kick off for Varsity.
 
During halftime of all games, the first 15 future Leopards able to score a goal will receive a $10 gift card to Zoe's Kitchen. There will be prizes for all future Leopards participating. LHS soccer players will be available after both the JV and Varsity halftime events to answer questions and sign autographs. All elementary and middle school students receive free admission the night of the event.

Volunteers Needed for The Frisco College Baseball Classic
There is an exciting new event coming to Frisco this spring, and you are invited to be a part of it. The Frisco College Baseball Classic will be held at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark March 3rd - 5th, 2017. The 2017 Classic will feature Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Arizona, all of which are considered to be among the top programs in country. The tournament spans over three days at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas.

The Frisco Classic is proud to be partnered with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the foundation.

The Frisco College Baseball Classic is looking for students 16 years and older needing volunteer hours. If you are interested in volunteering please click here or contact Abby Gray at [email protected] for more information.

Camp Invention - June 19-23
Camp Invention will be held at Sloan Creek Intermediate School from June 19th through 23rd for children entering K - 6th grades.  For more information click here .
