From Andrea Spencer-Linzie, Ministerial Intern
You see, the secret of life is that we are all ministers. We all have the ability to bless one another. It's true. - UU Minister, Rev. Webster Kitchell
It is true. The love of the cosmos; the caring of our hearts; the bonds of friendship; the hands offered in support or a hug; our attention and presence; our witness. These gifts are possible for each of us to have and to give.
When we realize these gifts have power in the giving and receiving of them, then we truly are ministers to one another. As we live in covenant to one another, we minister to one another. Ministry is not so much as "fixing things" as it is about paying attention. In my experience, it's hard to "fix things." It's also hard to pay attention, too, but I believe it is a more effective ministry.
As you think about your gift of ministry, consider the following scripture from Psalm 139:
You formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb.... I am fearfully and wonderfully made... My soul knows that very well.
You are wonderfully made. Discover your gift of ministry and share it abundantly. It will not only bless those with whom you share, but in giving you, too, will be blessed.
