Lifting Spirits at Lambeau Field

There was lots of cheering and excitement recently! That's because Variety kids Mateo and McHale and their family got tickets to attend a Packers football game!

The game was a great time for the family to unite and enjoy one another's company. That's because the week prior to the game, the family spent lots of time apart due to one of the boys going through surgery and being in the ICU.

"Thank you for the Packers tickets. We had a great time as a family. It was refreshing for all of us the past week and a half of being apart. Thank you for extending such generosity to our family and for lifting our spirits. This is a great distraction from our recent admission to the hospital and gives the kids something very exciting to shift our focus onto," said Mateo & McHales's mom Angie.

This outing was made possible by our Future Program which provides fun free outings in the community for children with physical disabilities and their immediate family members. We thank James Weedman and Bob Mallow, American Family Insurance Agent for partnering with us and donating the tickets to our Future Program!
Fun in the Sun

We had such a great time at Variety's Annual Family Picnic! More than 100 Variety kids and family members got together to enjoy a day filled with lots of fun summertime activities which included adaptive baseball at the Miracle League Baseball Field, swimming in a zero depth entry pool, playground games, and more! We were honored to have members from the National Vintage League at our picnic playing baseball with the kids!

We would like to express our deep appreciation to the Chocolate Factory Elm Grove for choosing Variety as the benefiting charity of their "Chocolate for Charities",  an initiative to support the local community. All seven Chocolate Factory locations sell premium chocolate squares for 25 cents or five for a dollar.

We thank the Chocolate Factory Elm Grove for their enthusiastic and generous support!
Grease Dinner & Chick Flick

The Grease Dinner & Chick Flick was definitely a fun-filled night! Beauty School Dropouts from Nordstrom were there to do cat eye, pouty lips, and fragrance layering for all the guests. The Pink Ladies came dolled up in their Greece inspired attire and 50's best! We even had prizes for best dressed! We served carnival inspired foods for dinner and had prom punch and cookies during the movie.

We thank everyone who helped make this event a success including Marcus Theatres for their partnership, Marcus South Shore Cinema for hosting our event, Nordstrom for doing make-overs, Brighton Collectibles for donating goody bags, silent auction and raffle donors, and of course all of our Ladies of Variety for joining us! We can't wait until our next LOV a.k.a. Ladies of Variety event!

Meet Sylvia

"It's amazing how fast Sylvia was able to pick up on riding once she had the correct support that she needed! We can not thank you enough for your help."
-Heather, Sylvia's mom

Sylvia is an independent and energetic 6-year-old Variety kid! She is diagnosed with a very rare chromosome deletion, one of only 8 documented cases in the world. She is special indeed!

Due to Sylvia's diagnosis, her balance is impaired. She trips and falls more than normal. Her judgment of distance and space are also impaired.

Despite her challenges, Sylvia doesn't let anything slow her down. In fact, Sylvia's family are avid bicyclists. They wanted to actively include Sylvia and not have to push her in a carrier during their rides. They wanted a bike that would fit Sylvia correctly, give her more stability than a traditional bike, and something that could go beyond their driveway. But just any ordinary bike would not do for Sylvia either. It was extremely important to Sylvia that she got a bike that resembled a regular bicycle as much as possible. And she wanted something girly!

Thanks to the generous support of friends like YOU, Sylvia got her girly adaptive bike! She can now independently ride and no longer relies on her family to push her in a carrier. She rides it past her driveway and down the street in her neighborhood!
