From the Editor: Remembering Loriene Boyer

The Update wishes to express its sympathy to the family of Loriene Boyer, who passed away on January 24, 2017. She began Masters swimming thanks to the encouragement of Ray and Zada Taft and swam for the San Mateo Marlins in 1970. When she relocated to Portola Valley in 1972, she joined Rinconada Masters. She swam Nationals at the College of San Mateo in 1972 and traveled to Santa Monica in 1973 with her teammates. Her accomplishments there can be viewed in the 40-44 age group listings for that year. Her team buddies at Rinconada were Bobbie Callison, Carol McPherson, and Cindy Baxter.

Her daughter Karen Boyer followed her mother's lead as a competitive swimmer. Karen swims for PCCM in Redwood City with teammate Bob Anderson (60-64 age group).
