To tackle this issue of underrepresentation in STEM education, Dr. Reagan Flowers has the distinct honor of serving on the Smithsonian Minority Leadership in Science Education Steering Committee, a group that is supporting the organization of a Teacher Leadership Summit at Howard University in Washington, DC on February 24-26, 2017.  At this summit, teams of educators will create a plan for attracting, retaining, and developing a diverse STEM teaching workforce in their districts to become catalysts for systemic change. By increasing representation among STEM teachers, we will in turn increase the diversity of STEM students and subsequent career opportunities available to them.   Stay tuned, more STEM goodness to come!

101 Days Until the C-STEM Challenge! 

It's February already? Time sure flies but that means the C-STEM Challenge is just a couple of months away! This is just a friendly reminder of where you should be in the curriculum based off of the  CSTEM Challenge Academic Year Sample Pacing Guide ( available  in your curriculum module booklet).

Cycle 4: Design Prototype

Students will:
  • Create a design for their prototype(s) using alternative materials to test their innovative ideas.
Teachers will: 
  • Assist students with using alternative materials to design, explore, and test their innovative ideas. 
  • Facilitate discussions for design improvements.

Students & Teachers! Stay Involved With CSTEMbreak!
Don't forget that there are two awards that will be given out at the National C-STEM Challenge that are determined by CSTEMbreak participation.
  • Top Ambassador Award:  This award is determined by the judges and will be given to an elementary, middle, and high school student that demonstrate leadership and high level participation through their CSTEMbreak page. 
  • STEM Teacher of the Year Award: This award is given to a teacher that demonstrates through action the mission of C-STEM and is well documented through their CSTEMbreak page, communication, and leadership.
