This past week has been the busiest and most successful yet of the session. We made major milestones to   define a clear path forward on tax reform and witnessed the signing of a new executive order  and  the introduction of   H.B. 272 Regulatory Impact Amendments, both of which address our recommendations on regulation. Taken together, this executive order and H.B. 272 show the shared commitment by the Executive and Legislative branches to carry out the most extensive overhaul of regulatory policy in state history.

We also hosted our legislative reception, Chamber of Commerce day on the hill and Leadership Utah. Thanks to all involved.

 

Most importantly, this week  H.B. 81, Post-employment Restrictive Covenant Amendments  advanced to the full House. As we are currently in the process of a comprehensive study about non-compete agreements,  we will work against the bill on the House floor.

 

This is a complex issue that has the potential, if not handled diligently, to undermine Utah's years of effort to promote the best business environment in the nation. The value of the study is to ensure that all parties have data to make an informed decision.
