JPMORGAN CHASE DEPLOYS FIRST $10 MILLION OF CHICAGO INVESTMENT
JPMorgan Chase & Co. ( Melissa L. Bean and Liz Connelly) announced it has deployed the first $10 million of its $40 million, three-year investment, to create economic opportunity in Chicago's underserved neighborhoods.

JPMorgan Chase's investment will allow the Women's Business Development Center (WBDC) (Emilia DiMenco) to expand into the Englewood neighborhood on Chicago's South side, delivering business services, ongoing mentorship and technical assistance, access to growth capital or direct lending, and expanded networks to neighborhood-based entrepreneurs

"Innovation is the key to growth and if we want our communities to thrive, we have to make it easier for women to get the skills they need to excel with and in the tech field," said Emilia DiMenco, Chief Executive Officer, Women's Business Development Center.   Read more...

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is releasing the 2017 Safe Shopping Guide, which includes detailed descriptions and photographs of children's products recalled in the last year - from popular children's toys and games that pose choking hazards to children's furniture and playsets that pose entrapment or falling risks.

ILLINOIS RECOGNIZED FOR ELECTRICAL GRID MODERNIZATION
For the last five years, work to modernize ComEd's energy grid has contributed to record reliability for its customers. This work, in addition to the passage of the Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA) and participation in the Illinois Commerce Commission's (ICC) NextGrid initiative, helped position Illinois as second in nation in the 2016 Grid Modernization Index (GMI).

"Our smart grid work has helped to deliver the best four years on record of power reliability and service to our customers. We are building off the foundation of this work to help move Illinois to a clean energy future and provide greater access to renewables, energy efficiency and valuable job training within our communities," said Anne Pramaggiore. USG CORPORATION TO EXPAND CEILINGS PORTFOLIO WITH ACQUISITION OF CEILINGS PLUS
USG Corporation (Jennifer Scanlon) announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Ceilings Plus, a leading manufacturer of specialty ceilings products. Upon closing, USG will pay approximately $52 million in cash, on a cash-free and debt-free basis.  The pending transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to close by the end of 2017.

"The addition of Ceilings Plus is expected to further expand USG's product portfolio, accelerate innovation and enhance our presence in the high-growth Specialty Ceilings market," said Jennifer Scanlon, President and CEO of USG Corporation. "I believe this acquisition will increase our penetration into architectural specifications and enable cross-selling opportunities for USG's existing tile and grid ceiling products." Read more...

NEXTLEVEL HEALTH WINS NEW CONTRACT AS RAUNER ADMINISTRATION FINALIZES CONTRACTS
The Rauner administration has finalized contracts with seven private health insurers that could cost the state up to $15 billion a year as he overhauls a major Medicaid cost-saving initiative. The new program, called HealthChoice Illinois, will launch on Jan. 1. Chicago-based NextLevel Health founded by Dr. Cheryl Whitaker is among the insurers that won new contracts. Read more...
NAVY PIER'S FIRST FUNDRAISING EVENT CELEBRATES CENTENNIAL
ExPIERience, the first fundraising event ever hosted by Navy Pier ( Michelle T. Boone and Marilynn Gardner) on November 7, celebrated the conclusion of its 100th anniversary and raised funds for its free public arts and cultural programs. The evening honored the Polk Bros. Foundation ( Gillian Darlow and Sandra P. Guthman) and provided unique experiences for more than 600 guests, including fireworks, trolley rides, Chicago-inspired food and captivating performances from local artists. NEW ETF JOINS FIGHT AGAINST SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN WORKPLACE
A new exchange-traded fund is being introduced for investors who want their money kept far away from sexual harassment in the workplace.  The Impact Shares YWCA Women's Empowerment ETF is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2018, and enable people to invest with companies that promote women's interests and take strong stands against workplace harassment.  The nonprofit Impact Shares Corp will oversee the YWCA fund, whose ticker will be "WOMN." It is also creating a fund to invest in companies that promote interests of minorities, the NAACP Minority Empowerment ETF.

WOMEN BUSINESS ENTERPRISES CALL FOR HEALTHCARE SOLUTION THAT WORKS FOR BUSINESSES OF ALL SIZES
The Women's Business Development Center (WBDC) ( Emilia DiMenco) and Smart Policy Works released a survey exploring the need for healthcare reform that works for businesses of all sizes in 2018.  "The findings are clear - women business owners view offering affordable, quality health insurance to their employees as a top priority," said Emilia DiMenco, President and Chief Executive Officer at the WBDC. HEAD OF CHICAGO RED CROSS HEADING TO HURRICANE-RAVAGED PUERTO RICO
The Chicago chapter of the Red Cross is sending more than just supplies to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico. Celena Roldan, CEO, American Red Cross of Chicago & Northern Illinois, and her mother Ida, a mental health expert, will try to help where they can in Puerto Rico. There are currently some 500 Red Cross relief workers on the island providing aid, but they have yet to get to many remote communities.

"There's literally communities that still were encountering individuals that were seeing people, the Red Cross, for the first time and have had no contact since the hurricane hit," said Celena Roldan. Read more...
CHICAGO FOUNDATION FOR WOMEN AWARDS $30,000 IN #GIVINGTUESDAY GRANTS
Chicago Foundation for Women (K. Sujata and Alysia Tate) announced $30,000 in #GivingTuesday grants to support services for immigrant and refugee women and girls in the Chicago region. 
Based on a community vote leading up to and on #GivingTuesday, CFW will award $20,000 to Chinese Mutual Aid Association to support the Young Women Warriors Project, a free, year-round mentorship program that connects young women from immigrant families with mentors and workshops on issues including applying for college, financial literacy, social services and health.

"We are so grateful to our community for coming together to make this powerful statement of solidarity with immigrant and refugee women and girls," CFW President/CEO K. Sujata said.  CFW will also make two grants of $5,000 each to Syrian Community Network and Western Suburban Action Project (PASO).

Rohini Dey , Owner and Founder of Vermilion in Chicago and New York, was featured in Moneyish, which highlighted her participation at Take the Lead Day - an inaugural women's leadership conference, which convened nearly two dozen female leaders to sound off on gender equity, leadership parity and "power tools" for climbing up the ladder. CHICAGO CHILDREN'S CHOIR AT ILLUMINATE 900 FOR MAKE-A-WISH 
The Chicago Children's Choir (Josephine Lee) preformed at the festive kickoff party to the holidays, Illuminate 900, hosted by The 900 North Michigan Shops on November 16. Attracting a crowd of over 1,200, the event transformed the mall's atrium into a winter wonderland and featured a tree-lighting ceremony and performances from several community arts organizations. Benefiting Make-A-Wish Illinois, this second annual event offered a variety of activities for young and old, appearances by the Real Elf and Santa, and much more. Read more...

ANGELA F. WILLIAMS NAMED PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF EASTERSEALS, INC.

In a tribute to the power of TCN,  Angela Williams was recruited as CEO of Easterseals National by  Alison Ranney of Koya Leadership Partners. Alison - who runs the Chicago Office of Koya, the executive recruiting firm that recruits CEO and other senior leaders to mission-driven clients serves on TCN's Nonprofit Membership Subcommittee and learned of Angela through her nomination process. Impressed and intrigued, she subsequently made a point of attending Angela's TCN HerStory lunch in May 2017 to learn more.

As a result, when Alison kicked off the Easterseals National CEO search, Angela was one of her first phone calls.  Angela was selected after an extremely rigorous national search and unanimously approved by the Board of Directors.

Angela will step into the CEO role of the country's leading nonprofit provider of services for people with disabilities, including Veterans, and their families as it approaches its 100th anniversary in 2019.  She was recruited from the YMCA of the USA, where she most recently served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Administration Officer.

She will be the tenth person to lead Easterseals in the U.S. This distinction is enhanced by the fact that she is the first African American, and the first female within the past 41 years, to hold this post.

ILENE S. GORDON RECEIVES DANIEL H. BURNHAM AWARD FOR BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADERSHIP

Ilene S. Gordon
, Chairman, President, and CEO, Ingredion Incorporated, received the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce's Daniel H. Burnham Award for Distinguished Leadership on November 8th. The Burnham Award, now in its 26th year, pays tribute to a prominent business leader who advances the Chicago region's business climate while making significant civic contributions.

Ilene accepted the honor in front of more than 550 people at the Burnham Award Dinner at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago. The evening featured a video about Ilene's work and the prestigious Burnham Award . Prior to the dinner, Ilene was featured in a television news report on ABC 7 Chicago
KAY MCCURDY RECEIVES AMBASSADOR AWARD

On November 15,  Kay McCurdy , Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., received an Ambassador Award from 2020 Women on Boards. This award is in recognition of Gallagher's having had women compose more than 20% of its board of directors since 2005.  In addition, women chair two of three of the standing committees of the board, and Gallagher's two largest foreign business units in the UK and Australia exceed 20% women on their boards.

JOYCE SIMON TO RETIRE FROM SHEDD AQUARIUM

Since 1992 Joyce Simon, CFO and Executive Vice President at Shedd Aquarium, has provided financial leadership at the  Shedd Aquarium for the day-to-day operations as well as many important strategic initiatives. Please join the  Shedd Aquarium in extending best wishes to Joyce who, after 25 years of dedicated service at the Aquarium, has decided to retire.

An important part of Joyce's legacy at the Aquarium is reflected in her personal mantra. She has expressed to many of us that her professional goal is to "help good people do good things." We are all grateful for Joyce's guidance and unwavering commitment to the success of the Aquarium.  She will continue to 'do good things' until her last day onsite at the Aquarium on December 7th, however her positive impact will last for many years.

UrbanWorks' ( Patricia S. Natke) La Casa Student Housing design will be featured in "Making Room: Housing for a Changing America" exhibit, hosted by the Smithsonian's National Building Museum from November 18, 2017 - September 16, 2018. The exhibition highlights new housing models, which reflect America's shift away from nuclear households and includes alternatives at all levels of the market, from micro-units, tiny houses, and accessory apartments to cohousing, co-living, and beyond. The exhibit will explore cutting-edge typologies through case studies.
