Got Runoff? Tips on How to Manage Our Winter Stormwater
Amidst jumps for joy at this drought-breaking rainfall, you may have also found yourself pulling on your rain boots and grabbing a shovel to clear the way for excessive stormwater.
Managing stormwater for our neighborhoods, creeks, roads, and aquifers requires more than clearing ditches.
The solution to managing a deluge of stormwater is to take a holistic approach. Instead of rushing water off the landscape, we need to slow it, spread it out, sink it into the ground, and if possible, store it for future use.
The definitive guide, "Slow It, Spread It, Sink It, Store It!" outlines practical projects that individuals and neighborhoods can adopt to manage their excessive stormwater.
Projects that store, slow, spread and sink stormwater include rainwater catchment, replacing impervious pavement with permeable paving, routing stormwater to rain gardens, and more. California State Legislature Celebrates RCD's 75 Years of Service
We would like to make a correction
from our last e-newsletter
: On October 28, 2016, the Gold Ridge RCD was presented with a Gold Resolution by the
California State Legislature
for actively serving our community since 1941, not the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, who awarded the Sonoma RCD with a similar Gold Resolution last month for their years of service.

Public Hearing and Extended Comment Period for the Occidental Wastewater Project
Sonoma County Water Agency Director Lynda Hopkins announced on Monday, January 9 that the Water Agency Board will consider holding a public hearing for the Occidental County Sanitation District Wastewater Transport Compliance Project Initial Study and Negative Declaration.
A Draft Initial Study/Negative Declaration (IS/ND), in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act, was released on December 21. The deadline for public comments has been extended to 5 p.m., February 24, 2017. In addition, on January 24, the Sonoma County Water Agency Board of Directors will be considering a request to hold a public hearing on Thursday, February 17, at 6 p.m. at the Monte Rio Community Center. Petaluma NRCS Office to Hire for Soil Conservationist Position
The Petaluma NRCS office is one of a few offices in the state to be receiving two-year positions to support the soil health effort. Watch www.USAJobs.gov for the opening. Other locations hiring for this position include: Ukiah, Willows, Oroville, Santa Maria, Auburn, Visalia and Victorville.
